The WPS didn’t work. Other than that it set up fine and I didn’t need to reset as often as the old one. Wish the WPS worked

Our antiquated Verizon DSL router failed after a power failure on a Thursday night. Verizon tech support couldn't have a replacement til Monday. Needing service for proffessional reasons only and ASAP, we opted for this unit to be delivered on Saturday. After numerous attempts, contacted Verizon, now bright spot, brightspeed or whatever, learned this modem WAS NOT compatible with our DSL service. Still, not to give up too quickly, called the 24/7 tech support only to get message to call back during NORMAL business hours, M-F, 8-5. We have processed return and getting one direct from Verizon, Brightspot, Brightspeed, Brightlight, Brightleaf or whatever it will be next Wednesday.

Works well with Verizon DSL - my internet speed was enhanced and is now much more stable than with the Netgear router modem I had previously used. Plug and play setup for PCs hardwired to the Internet via CATV cable - setting up a wireless connection is easy but requires user action regarding network ID and passcode. A little-overpriced (hence the 4 stars rather than 5) but I would buy again without hesitation.

I bought this to replace an old DSL modem that burned out. Easy to set up. You just need to set it to PPPoE, then enter the user name and password that is associated with your Verizon DSL account, and you are basically good to go. I think this info just matches your email account and email password that is associated with your Verizon account. Of course if you need to call Verizon to get your user name and password, that is a different story... getting technical support from them means being on hold for more than 30 minutes, after which time you get connected to a call center in India which is half a step above completely useless. But the modem its self, I give 5 stars.

I originally posted a poor review of this modem because it is advertised as a plug-n-chug replacement for Verizon DSL. I followed the instructions repeatedly a couple of days ago, each time being told "congratulations...you are now connected to the internet" and each time I wasn't. Tried for over an hour before giving up and calling Verizon "tech support". Well, anyone who has called them knows how that turned out. I had every intention of returning it today, but thought I'd try one more time on my own...still couldn't connect. After leaving in a huff to eat lunch, I came back an hour later to find everything running perfectly. So, the moral of the story is: before giving up leave for an hour and make sure it doesn't need more time, even if the set up page tells you you're connected and you're not.Upload and download speeds are no better than the standard modem, but I expected that. I bought it to make my WiFi signal stronger and this little box delivers. WAY stronger signal and much more reliable throughout my building.

Great! Simple instructions for set up and it works a 1000 times better than the Westell that I originally had.

I've spent a fair amount of time trying to use this router to stream windows media center recordings to my android tablet, where I use MX Player Pro to play them. It is frustratingly close to working, but I always up up with stuttering due to lack of throughput. On both my tablet and my windows laptop, my internet connection lists a speed of 72 mbps, which should be more than enough to stream the videos. I found an app named network monitor mini which shows the actual connection speed in MX Player Pro. The maxiumum actual download speed I'm obtaining is about 25 mbps. With some more effort, I was able to determine a number of my neighbors also have 2.4 ghz routers, although my signal is the strongest in my house. After poking around on the web, I found some discussions of how router must "queue" up when there are several signals at the same frequency. My best guess is that this is causing the problem. I was also able to use another app named wifi optimizer (polyglotz) to determine that there are no 5 ghz signals at all, including from this router. Looking through the specs, I didn't find much documentation, but after poking around on the web, I determined that this only has a 2.4 ghz antenna. Ultimately, I think this router is fine for most usage, but not for streaming hi def videos in a region with a number of competing 2.4 ghz signals. For large throughput, it seems you are better off looking for a router with 5 ghz capability.

I bought this modem/router to replace my 10 year old modem/router which was starting to give me problems which required rebooting several times a day. There is a noticeable improvement in speed over the old unit. No problems in setting it up, it was almost plug it in and done. I hope this new unit gives me 10 years of service. *** UPDATE *** I only got about 60 days of service on the actiontec unit before it stopped working. Luckily I still had my old unit which is back working OK so far. I put in a email to Actiontec's support but haven't gotten a resolution from them. After going back and forth with support the Actiontec unit is now functioning. I had to connect through Ethernet cable & reconfigure. I hope that this will not reoccur.*** 2nd UPDATE*** The unit has been functioning OK but I still haven't been able to get port forwarding to work properly and I haven't been able to find any user manual, which I don't think exists. Sometime when I have a lot of time to waste I will try to contact Actiontec's customer support.
