This is the third one I've ordered and the first one to come assembled and with instructions. I ain't no stupid idiot but I figured that the two hooks should go from folding flat to ready to throw in a second or so. Else, why the spring? No, the top hook has to be threaded into place and this takes five or ten seconds -- long time in ninja land. I had to modify the earlier two with limited success to quicken their deployments. As part of a cleanup crew I use it for cleaning up a local river by hooking shopping carts, cushions, bike wheels and other detritus which has found its way into the river. It is also good for hauling refrigerators and big equipment tires up slippery banks.

Came in tact but does not meet parkour standards. Climbing up buildings and swinging from low hanging branches it bent at the screws. What would make this better is to weld it into one solid piece instead of a weak screw

It's amazing how much one drunken "one click to order" purchase can change your life for the better. Didn't realize I'd even ordered this item until it showed up at my door. The feeling of joy in opening the box and assembling the grappling hook was on-par with that time Santa left the G.I. JOE USS Flagg aircraft carrier under the tree back in the fourth grade.Once the it was properly assembled and the rope attached via Tuna Knot (decided that would be a better option than a figure eight knot) I promptly enacted my master plan of "permanently borrowing" a cooler that had been abandoned when a fellow tenant moved out of my office building. It took a few tries but I successfully snagged the cooler by the handle and dragged it up from the balcony below. Now, I get to enjoy frosty beverages while plotting my next big heist.

Black Hornet Folding Grappling Hook is an OK kind of product; I did not try to climb with it, and don't think I would. I bought this to try to get something out of my trees. a WARNING: make sure you watch a youtube video how to handle this. you can hurt yourself very bad. the metal quality is average, and the line is made out of woven nylon.

I bought this **NINJA GRAPPLING HOOK** for my boyfriend for xmas; I was elated, probably mostly due to the novelty of the item...Then it came in the mail and I found myself wondering, "Was this wise?" Don't get me wrong, my boyfriend is roughly the same size as your average Japanese ninja and he does work out daily, however, I digress...Thoughts of him attempting to repel off our balcony or fire-escape to almost certain doom or physical injury; not necessarily his own, but the four or so tenants of our apartment building, made me physically cringe. The man has boundless luck in terms of avoiding physical injury, but none what-so-ever when it comes to accidentally damaging property. Regardless, I opened the Amazon box and contained within was another box which housed the soon to be weapon of mass destruction...and tool of our certain eviction...The box itself was in horrible shape; it literally looked like it had be sent via lowest priority airmail, shot (by the looks of the curious hole in the bottom of the box), opened, then re-taped and sent to the amazon warehouse then to my door. That's a big negative in my book and really made me question the quality of the product, however, the 30ft or so length or rope that came with it was in good condition and the grappling hook itself was in pristine...No, I didn't give it a test run...Surely the results would have be worthy of a darwin award, much to the shame of my family and friends...My boyfriend has had several test goes with it now and says it works splendidly, he's used it mostly to scale brick and concrete walls around town, he DID have the notion to climb the roof but I quickly dashed that idea. More than anything, given our current urban environment, he really values the item for its novelty and agrees that anyone who is interested in ninjas/ martial arts/ or dare I say it...clandestine activities would appreciate this as a gift. That being said; I need to repeat, like so many other reviewers before me...That THIS IS NOT A TOY. It is the real deal, it's sharp and worst of all heavy...This is not the kind of thing you'd want a kid or teenager lobbing around the yard, or in the general vicinity of anything of value. This thing could seriously injure, or even kill someone or something if you hit them with it.

This grappling hook came with a blacl corded roap and the 4 section twistable folding style hook. The rope I had to replace as it was like rope you would tie a small boat with, The rope was a large as the tip of my pinky finger. Now the hook after I aquired a larger rope, supported the weight of me and two other friends at one time 5 feet apart. I am 178 lbs, my two friends are 197 and 174, so I forces over 400 lbs onto this hook and we mad it safely to the top. Though it was slightly bent a little bit but some serious bending got it back in place. For a single person, it is unbendable, I will use this hook everytime. I can also tie the roap to my shinobi shozoku and the hook isnt that heavy, about the weight of a sunday newspaper packed with the christmas sales lol.

I bought this device to solve a serious tree trimming problem in my yard. I had an oak tree limb that could not be reached from the ground, or by ladder (without danger). This hook was perfect for grabbing the limb, putting tension on it and placing it in a position to be cut with a pole chain saw. This took some practice swings and learning how to throw it, but then it worked perfectly and I hooked the limb on the third or fourth toss. I recommend you steer clear of any electrical wires etc if you use it like I did. Also, comes with a hefty length of strong rope.

I bought this grappling hook as part of a costume piece, but after receiving it, I feel like I can actually use it to climb walls or swing over chasms! The hook itself has a good weight to it. Granted, I haven't actually tested it yet, nor would I actually want to. But in a life or death situation, I'm sure it could hold up well. I'm giving this product 4/5 stars because I replaced the rope it came with. I wanted a sturdier rope with a better load weight. But I couldn't be happier with my purchase.
