the vortec 5.7 is notorious for misfires once they get old, often due to dirty fuel delivery components and it's not worth a complete replacement of the system.this cap will make it more driveable for sure.however , it's not a guarantee against misfiringit will definitely make the engine run differently, in most cases, better,it kind of refocused the real problem in my truck you might sayjust what i can say after a week of real world driving after a tune up.

I purchased this distributor cap as part of a cap/rotor/wires/plugs replacement for my 1999 Chevy C1500. I was having a hard-starting problem and at 200,000 miles was still on the OEM ignition system. Everything bolted up fine, and the hard-starting went away for about a day; then suddenly the idle went rough and the check engine light started flashing (misfire condition)--turning an already bad day into a really bad day--so I took it to a highly regarded local mechanic. He asked some questions and an hour later he had it fixed: "Distributor cap was bad," he said, further recommending that in future I use only AC Delco parts.I would have said that there's always a chance of getting a bad part, but judging by the reviews, it looks like a quality control issue (to be charitable). From now on I'll stick with AC Delco parts for my truck. If I had, I could have saved myself a $140 bill, a few hours' time, and a lot of aggravation.

My 1997 Chevy Suburban was due for a smog inspection so I did a tune up. After about 30 miles of driving the engine started to run rough after 50 miles the check engine light came on with a OBDII engine fault of P0300 (engine misfire) after some trouble shooting replaced the distributor cap with a OEM one and it cleared the problem. I know in the past Accel was known for good high preformance ignition parts I do not know if this is just one time bad part or not.

This part is a piece of junk. It lasted for less than 100 miles, then pins 3 and 7 went out. Caused major misfiring and problems when it died. Have asked for a full refund. Will update when I hear back from Amazon. Spend the extra money and get the Delco part. The higher price on the Delco part is a lot cheaper than having to do it over when this part dies. I am surprised that something of this poor quality is being sold here!

Selecting replacement parts for your vehicle, as many of us have experienced, is not just a matter of getting any part, but one as good as original. Accel fits the bill. I've spent too much time and money in the past changing out "discount" parts to know as some point, you get what you pay for. This item will last through its maintenance cycle AND perform like it should. Try Accel heavy duty replacement parts. You won't be disappointed.
