Who can resist the plumes of bright reddish purple flowers? Not only does 'Royal Purple' make a perfect sized standard, its upright growth is hardly ever without bloom. Unlike many bougainvilleas, this one is not a vine and has a shrubby, bushy growth habit. The brightly colored flowers are less sensitive to the shortening day length, so it flowers freely throughout the year. In fact, the blooms hold their color even with age. In the south, 'Royal Purple' can be used as a landscape plant. Hardy to Zone 9 and higher for outdoors. In cooler regions grow indoors or place outdoors in the summer and indoors in the winter. Full sun, grows to 2-3' in container, minimum temperature indoors 50°, everbloomer.

Initially it arrived only 1 inch tall and all leaves dropped. In a couple of months it recovered and leaves grow now. I initially rated it low, I didn’t believe it would survive. I correct myself now. I hope it’ll keep growing. But it’s tiny, as if intended as bonsai.

Very small plant, but it was outside all summer, and now I brought it in in the fall, and it is now full of blooms.

Within 3 days of planting out in a nice big planter full of nursery garden soil, every single leaf had fallen off. I was watching for the stem to dry up and then I was going to plant sumething else there, but it started throwing new buds, and now two weeks later it looks fine. Not blooming yet, of course, but at least it has leaves. So if yours appears to just die a day or two after planting it out, don't toss it. Give it a chance to start over again. Keep it watered good, at least half the day in the sun, with decent drainage, and see if it doesn't come back to life. I only went three stars because I almost tossed it and I still haven't seen it bloom, but I was going to give it bare minimum, because after all, it looked like it died. like going to the pound and paying to adopt a dead puppy. If I end up being impressed I will throw out another star, and if super impressed, (I only get super impressed with anything maybe once every five years) I will give it the whole enchilada five stars but not before. They should warn you that it will drop all its leaves without actually dying all the way dead.

My bougainvillea arrived a couple of days late well packaged and very healthy. I had purchased three plants. They all came with lovely little flowers. It's been a couple of weeks now and one plant lost its flowers but the other two still have their flowers. I placed them with two large, mature bougainvillea. Even when the flowers have fallen off I don't panic. I know for having the large bougainvillea that even when they loose flowers or leaves they are just cycling to more flowers and more leaves. Just keep giving them loving care.

Upon arrival this is what I was left with after two mushy leaves n one dead flower had fallen off. Super thin n tiny stem n one stem looks almost dead. Sorry but not worth the money. Packaging only has peanuts in it. Not wrapped in bubble wrap . Disappointed cause I would’ve been ok with it being healthy stem with live leaves and stem, despite being smaller. Doesn’t seem to be rootball either so have to pitch them.

Update: changed to 1 star wish i could make it 0. i think my plant that arrived almost dead has finally died. What A Waste Of Money.i received my plant with all the leaves in the plastic bag that covered the plant during shipping. i placed it under grow light due to it being so hot in florida, i didnt want to take chance with high temps killing the plant due to it being stressed with shipping (close to month). once the tiny leaves came out and i left under grow light longer to ensure they kept growing. i then moved the plant outside because the leaves quit growing, but i put outside during a cooler day, the leaves began to die off until all the tiny leaves died. then the green part of the one new growth that had already grown out started turning yellow. i attempted doing a small prune job to see if i could stimulate the plant to grow, but the plant isnt doing anything right now. im keeping it potted in hopes that it will grow. i have another boug i got from lowes and its growing and blooming like crazy. i really hope this plant pulls through.

I have grown these plants for years but the plants I just received didn't have a strong root system and they are struggling to survive. Not sure they are going to make it.one is thriving and the other one died
