Saint Catherine Labouré, proclaimed a saint in 1947 by Pope Pius XII, said she had witnessed many apparitions. The occasion on which the Holy Virgin commissioned Catherine to have the Miraculous Medal struck was her second apparition, which took place on November 27, 1830, around 5.30 pm. The Virgin told her that that medal would be a sign of love, a pledge of protection and a source of graces for all those who would have trusted in it. Our Lady also showed Catherine what this medal should be like. Catherine said that in her apparition, Mary's feet rested on a half globe, which symbolized the globe, and crushed the head of a greenish snake spotted with yellow. The Virgin's hands were adorned with rings encrusted with precious stones that projected rays of light of different intensity and color downwards. Our Lady explained to Catherine that those rays were: “the symbol of the graces that I scatter on the people who ask me”.

THE CHAPELET OF THE VIRGIN OF THE MIRACULOUS MEDAL

O Immaculate Virgin of the Miraculous Medal, who, moved with pity by our miseries, descended from heaven to show us how much care you take to our pains and how much you do your best to remove the punishments of God from us and obtain his graces for us, help us in our present. need and grant us the graces we ask of you. On the night of July 18, 1830, St. Catherine Labouré, heard herself softly called: "Sister Labouré! ... She woke up with a start and saw a child resplendent with light, her Guardian Angel, who invited her to go to the chapel: Come ! Our Lady is waiting for you! In the chapel: A rustle of silk robe and the Queen of Heaven comes forward from the right side and comes and sits on the armchair. With her heart overflowing with joy, St. Catherine threw herself on her knees, joined her hands and placed them in the lap of the Holy Virgin. Thus began, between the Heavenly Mother and the humble nun, a conversation that lasted over two hours. Before disappearing, like something that goes out, the SS. Virgin said to St. Catherine: "I will return, my daughter, because I have a mission to entrust to you!". Suddenly the little globe that Our Lady was holding on her heart disappeared at the top and her hands lowered, enveloping the world that she had under her feet with luminous rays, a symbol of the graces obtained for us. It was therefore formed around the figure of the SS. Virgin, an oval frame with the words of the Gjaculatory in gold letters: "O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to You!". The picture seemed to turn around. The figure of the Madonna disappeared and a large M shone in the center, surmounted by a small cross. Under the M the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary shone. Around 12 brilliant stars stood out. The visionary heard a voice saying to her: "Get a medal made on this model, the people who will wear it around their neck with confidence will receive great graces!". The medal of the Immaculate Conception, coined in 1832, was called The Miraculous Medal, due to the large number of spiritual and material graces obtained through the intercession of Mary. The second apparition took place on November 27, 1830, again in the chapel of the Mother House of the Daughters of Charity, while St. Catherine was doing the afternoon meditation at 5.30 pm. Without anyone noticing, the now familiar rustle of silk robe shook her. With a sinking heart she raised her eyes and saw the Madonna on the high altar. She wore an aurora-white robe, a blue cloak, a white veil on her head and was standing on a half sphere, wrapped in a greenish snake. At the height of her heart, the Immaculate Conception held with her hands and lovingly squeezed another golden globe, offering it to God with a maternal attitude. A voice said to the visionary: "This little globe symbolizes the whole world and each soul in particular!". Then the fingers of the SS. Virgo were filled with shining rings, adorned with precious stones that radiated beams of light downwards.

This is a very nice, artistically beautiful, and incredible Miraculous Medal. It's made in Italy, which is known for its quality and craftsmanship. It's very impressive. I have a collection of Miraculous Medals, and this is one of my very favorites. My other favorites are made in Italy too!

You have lots of options if you want to buy one of these little medallions. For some reason, I wanted to source mine from a craftsman so I chose these since they're supposedly made by craftsman in italy. It is nicely made, a pretty little medallion. As the title mentions though, it's a bit small for the price.
