Use for cabinet doors or drawers. Works best when used as illustrated, that is with the loop on the front and the hinged hasp on the side. (The hasp has an extra-long slot for the loop because of the way it swings closed, so if the hinge is at the front it will not hold the door shut as tightly).

They work but not very thick material, I think a small bolt cutter could cut through it like butter. Keeps the honest out.

My new job is a WFH and I have to have a locking drawer for confidential health information of my clients.I have a wonderful old wood hutch desk with a file drawer, but it has no lock. Before I started doing client work, I had to prove to the HIPPA compliance officer that my home office included a secure locking drawer for client paperwork. When my husband and I looked at retrofitting it with a lock, we realized it might not be absolutely reliable because the wood piece we had to work with was thinner than was preferable. After playing with all sorts of ideas, I finally just decided to put something that the HIPPA compliance officer couldn't find fault with. And this is what I chose.I have a small combination padlock, and it works perfectly. And, when the compliance officer toured my home office last week, she approved it and even endorsed it. She said that many locking small filing cabinets marketed for home office use are not as secure and can be easily pried open. The design of this latch is such that the top piece swings open, which reveals the screws used to secure it. But when it's swung closed again, the screws are hidden away and not accessible at all. You really can't hack through this without some power tools. It's a thick latch made of heavy metal and it's very durable. It's a matte black, which is nice because my desk is a dark espresso wood finish and it blends in better than a glossy one would.Installation was easy. If it came with instructions, I didn't use them. It's pretty easy to figure out what to do.
