I wanted them to hold a trellis in place. The baby squirrels were using the trellis as part of their gymnastics training set. One day I came out and it was laying on its side. I used two of the stakes and the trellis has been pretty steady since. I would like the flanges, the part of the stake that goes swirling around the core, to have more depth and stand away from the core a little bit more so they would grab into the dirt better, but for this purpose, I think they will hold up. They have a good length to them.
