PARTSELECT IGINITION COIL

Principle of ignition coil:

  • The auto ignition coil is actually the car ignition coil. The simple explanation of the ignition coil is to allow the spark plug to "generate sparks" to ignite the parts of the mixed gas in the cylinder.
  • A transformer that is actually responsible for converting the low-voltage current of the vehicle into high-voltage electricity.
  • Normally, each cylinder is equipped with a set of ignition coils. The ignition coils are generally replaced at a distance of 100,000 kilometres or more.

When and why should you replace ignition coils?

  • Ignition coils would fail due to age, overuse or simply manufacture defects. The material can crack or melt due to the heat from the electrical terminals. Replace your ignition coils as soon as your car starts showing signs of misfire, the engine check light appears or if your vehicle manual suggest that you replace them after a period of time.
  • The symptoms of defective coils depends on the car in question. It could be a misfire, backfiring, burnt gasoline smell, or starting issues when your “Check Engine Light” turns on. This will appear on the dashboard as a CEL. Prolonged engine misfire will destroy the catalytic converter and can lead to engine detonation.
  • When replacing ignition coils it is best to have them replaced all at once. Keep in mind that if one of the coils goes defective, then the others are probably going to be defective in the near future.
  • The number of ignition coils in the car depends on the car engine, model and year. Do not assume all vehicles are the same.

A faulty coil could cause major performance and structural issues for your vehicle, so if are experiencing any of the below symptoms, that means you need to check your coils emmidiately

How to Change an Ignition Coil?

Part1: Disconnect the old coil

Disconnect your battery’s negative terminal

Locate the ignition coil to be replaced.

Label the cables running into the coil, if there are multiple than one.

Release the clip on the plug running into the side of coil.

Part 2: Swapping in the new coil

Use a wrench to unscrew the bolts holding the original coil in place.

Extract original coil from the engine bay.

Prior to installation, compare the new coil to the old one

Orient the new coil in the same direction

Part 3: Activate the New ignition coil

Insert the bolts to hold the coil in place.

Connect the plug into the side coil.

Plug in ignition cables according to the order written on them.

2 out of 6 coils were defective and was given no option for a replacement. Had to speak with Amazon customer service to receive a refund which the seller only wanted to give a partial refund. And I'm still out the money it cost to replace the first set and then the money to install another set.

My coils were almost at the end of their lifespan and I needed to replace them. Problem is the factory ones are really expensive. Sooooo, I saw these and decided to give them a try. They seem like they're built like a tank and replacing them was easy. Every now and then I get a little whine sound through my car radio. Not enough to say yuck and it's very infrequent. Hell, it's possible it's something else and not a coil but I did start noticing the sound after I changed out the coils. If I had to do it again.....I would.

I put these coils in my 2015 Jeep Compass Sport 2WD 2.0L a few months back along with new spark plugs and so far they’ve been working great. They even look good, too!Update: here we are almost a year later and these are still working just fine. Finally got my gas mileage up to where it should be, too (other maintenance and repairs were needed too, so I can’t attribute that problem to the coils/plugs alone). These are the ones to get if you have a Patriot or Compass 1st-Gen.

Looked better in box than in description. They plugged in perfectly. Haven’t had any problems yet. Was hoping the new coil packs with the new spark plugs I bought would make the car idle a little closer to 750 but it stays around 550. Must be something else. But it’s running smooth.

Five and one half years ago I replaced all of the ignition coils on my '03 Silverado. For some time now I'v had an intermittent miss, but being the professional procrastinator that I am, I just kind of ignored the problem, particularly as I probably only drive the truck once a month or less (truck only has 60k on it). Well, last week while driving it, the miss went from intermittent to constant, so I decided it was time to stop being lazy. After pulling plug wires to find where the problem was, I began testing components (plug, wire, and coil) by swapping them to a different working cylinder. Ascertained that it was a dead coil that was the culprit (of course it was the one all the way back against the firewall), so I decided that instead of just ordering one coil, I'd just order a full set so that in case of another failure, I could simply grab a new one right off the rack in the garage and have it changed out in five minutes. The new coil fixed the problem immediately, and now the truck runs like new again. Not only are these coils coils a perfect replacement, they're also a huge bargain.
