I got this 6AWG wire connector kit to repair my GE water heater wires after one of the twist caps failed over time. It seems the original installer didn’t twist them properly, and after a few years, the heat caused one of the wires to melt, leading to a spark and a flipped fuse.Using this connector, I was able to securely connect both solid and stranded wires, and the result feels much more stable than the old twist caps. The connection is tight and solid, and everything has been working perfectly since the fix. The included screws and heat shrink tubing add extra security, making the installation even more reliable. If you need a durable and safe way to splice heavy-gauge wires, this kit is a great choice. Very satisfied with the results!

I needed to splice (extend) 4) #6 AWG wires in a subpanel and ordered these. They are shorter than expected -1 inch - and do include 4 small set screws per cylinder. The wire, coated with dielectric grease, barely fits, ( I think #8 is the thickest prescribed wire size) so that is a positive. The set screws, however, are the real issue. They will strip under heavy torque with the included allen key, and unless the wire size is small (think #10,12,14) the set screws will sit substantially beyond the cylinder (pictured). So when wrapping with rubber tape there is a pronounced hump.Likely using smaller wire partially resolves this, but IDEAL connecters, for example, are thicker, and the set screw will rest after tightening within the cylinder itself..leaving no part protruding..I did not use the heat shrink due to innaplicability.

Works as it should with correct wire size

Great mechanical butt connector, very robust brass construction for high amp loads. This is just what I needed for a 12v 30 amp circuit for an on board compressor system I am installing on my flatbed truck. Comes with heat shrink for protection for the positive wires.

I ordered these as I have a large wiring job coming up and I had never seen this type of connector before. I think they will work, but I was disappointed that the set screws are not pre-threaded into the holes on the brass sleeve. They are very small set screws and very tedious to thread them in one by one, four per connector. I feel like some thread lock should be applied to the screws to ensure that they will hold tight over the long run, but the idea of trying to paint thread lock onto these tiny screws exhausts me just to think about it. I really don’t have confidence that these connectors would hold up to any meaningful stretch or pulling so choose your locations carefully. For me, I think I will find another type of connector. My old fingers are just not up to threading so many tiny set screws.

These wire connectors are great for connecting two 6 AWG wires together or skinnier 8 or 10 AWG (you will just have to turn down more on the included mini grub screws - 22 included - and the Allen wrench that comes with it). The brass connectors are 1 inch long (5 included) and the heat shrink tube is double that at 2 inches (5 included). The kit is complete for any electrical patch job and the cool thing about these brass connectors is that if you need to reconnect the same wires they can be removed and reconnected. If they were soldered, the wires need to be cut and restripped. Or wrapping up in electrical tape which leaves a gooey residue after a year and you either have clean that up before using the same wire tips or just cut and restrip.

I generally hate crimp-on butt connectors. I typically tend to either use male/female type crimp on terminals or solder wires together. For heavier guage wire that you sometimes may want to disconnect or when soldering isn't convenient, these seem to be a great option. I also like to have the ability to maybe add a new ground wire to a bundle that go to the same ground (e.g. new lights) on the offroader. Great to have a few more of these in the parts bin.

This connector kit does a great job.I had to splice a 6AWG line that supported my 50A circuit for a car charger due to some home remodeling. I thought about replacing the line completely, but at $6/foot for 100 or so feet, I was hoping for just this bit of kit. As I said, it works great. After 30 minutes of charging at 40A, the connectors were cool to the touch, implying no voltage drop. I'll do an overnight test, but expect the same result.I'm dinging it a star for two reasons. The first is with any small screw, the 2 mm hex heads didn't _quite_ match my 2mm wrench. They did supply a allen key -- maybe I should have used that. But I wanted to torque the set screws precisely using a torque wrench. The second reasons is that it didnt' come with a spec for to torque the set screws. These are rated for 80A (who am I kidding, 6AWG shouldn't support more than 50A!) and the screws should be torqued properly.I googled around and decided 0.6 Nm (5 in-lbs) was probably the best torque for a 2mm screw into copper as I was going to find. Haha -- my torque wrench doesn't have a setting that low! In retrospect, I should have just used their supplied allen wrench, because I did strip a couple of set screws (the heads, not the threads) when tightening. The inclusion of shrink tube is a nice touch -- that should help keep the set screws from loosening over many thermal cycles.I would buy again and recommend with the above caveats. Maybe the vendor will include a torque spec in the future.
