1st time I ordered this item they didn't provide a wedge, so I returned it only to get a replacement. Alas the replacement didn't have a wedge with it either. I now have 2 very nice wooden poles I can use as stakes but still no replacement handle for my hand tamper!

This is an exact replacement for my True Temper 8x8 tamper. The handle is smooth, but untreated. Prior to installing the handle I did treat it with a wood sealer.

requested 2" dia. X42" handle. The 1 7/16" won't work at all, the label was marked with correct number but guess what folks......

This was supposed to be a 1.5" diameter handle - it was only 1 3/8 so it wouldn't even fill the hole in the tamper base. Not only that, it didnt come with the pictured shim that is required for the slot which is shown taped to the handle in the picture. Sent it back.

This is identical to my previous tamper handle that I purchased from Home depot. It just doesn't have a varnish finish. I sprayed a couple of coats of varnish and lightly sanded it and it is as good as new. Key to not break these is to rake the gravel first then tamp straight down. Any side force will eventually break the handle at the base.
