If your fridge runs non-stop until it freezes up, this could be your problem. If it won't turn the compressor on and cool at all, this could be your problem. If you check your thermistor with an ohmmeter, you should expect to get a resistance value of about 30k ohms if in a cold fridge. At room temp, it it typically more like 10k ohms. You literally are supposed to test them in a cup of ice water to be a known temp (32-33 degrees). But they are commonly called 10k thermistors, since you should read somewhere near that (+/- 20% or so) when at room temp. So, easy to check them with a meter before you swap one out to be sure your new one is good.So, as the temp goes down, resistance goes up, and vice-versa. So, if your thermistor reads as a short (0-5 ohms), the fridge thinks it's about 500 degrees and will never shut off. Or, if the thermistor has an open (infinite high resistance), the fridge thinks it is -200 degrees and will never cut on.Either way, unplug it at the board and see if it is 0 (beeps on continuity) or OL. If either is true, swap it out and you probably have a working fridge again.
