Worked like a charm

The furnace went out just as the coldest temps of the year hit. After investigating, I was pretty sure it was the igniter. I ordered late afternoon on a Monday and it arrived the next day. It was a good match to my old igniter and I didn't have to change the wiring connection. I did have to slightly trim the ceramic fixator (the protruding ceramic ridge that fits in the slot of the metal bracket from the original igniter was a little long.). It was easy to trim it down to fit. The new igniter worked perfectly and the furnace was fixed. Thanks to the fast one-day shipping it only took a day to get it back up and running.

When I first fired up the furnace after installing this, there was a little spark at one spot toward the center of the element, but then it did glow and the furnace fired up. Worked for several cycles over about 4 hours before failing completely. The visible failure point was right where the spark was. Returned for a refund.

Bought one of these two yrs ago. That seems to be the life of these igniters. Packaged with wire nuts, leads are fitted with typical slip-on connectors. No problems. Furnace back up and heating

This is a great product that arrived quickly when my old part broke. There were no issues with the part, but for a homeowner installing this--be wary, as it is fragile and I broke one during installation and had to reorder. That was on me, but I learned to be more careful!

Easy to install (5 minutes, three 1/4" screws, 1 pull-apart two wire plug, and ours was super easy access by just removing the front top slide-out panel). A long extension on your nut driver will make things a bit easier (and our 2 ignitor mounting screws nut head sizes were 1/4", the very same as any 1/4" screw/nut driver's handle receiver hole, so even though a 1/4" socket would work, it was not even needed to remove those 2 screws). A caution: These ignitors are GLASS BRITTLE, so be gentle, no bumping into things with it on the install. This replacement came with our proper electric plug-in. However, this ignitor is universal and also comes with 2 heat resistant wire nuts. So, if your plug-in happens to be different, just cut those 2 wires and use included wire nuts to attach new ignitor to your type plug-in. (When using the wire nuts option, there are no positive/negative wire concerns, just wire nut those two leads together either way.) Worked perfect on our 23 yr old Rheem's gas. Thank's folks for this much, much cheaper option than our likable repair guy, we just invited him by for a beer later instead.P.S. NOTE; How do you know if you have a bad ignitor? Bet you have heard the 4 stages of your heat unit coming on many times.... Stage 1: Thermostat kicks unit on, blowers come on (this is a safety stage to clear unit and ducts of any possible rare gas leaks). Stage 2: Blower cuts off, Ignitor gets current and starts to glow for ignition (you can see this glow easily through the front cover vents). Stage 3: Unit senses ignitor working, discharges gas into unit that is ignited by glowing ignitor. Stage 4: The unit senses proper heat is in the heat exchanger, the blower kicks on again to send that heat into your house. So, if your ignitor is bad, the thermostat will kick unit on, you will hear the stage one blower clearing, but the unit will just later shut down after no ignitor operation is sensed. You can also just look at the unit's front when it kicks on, and you will not see that obvious orange glow through the vents after the safety blower gas clearance time, the unit will just shut down. Hope this helps... The May's Red Bluff Xing
