I have a log cabin off-grid in the wilderness, and for decades the indoor lighting has been Paulin/Humphrey propane lights. The mantles for them come in two forms--one that is quite similar to those described and shown here, with the ceramic slip-on base; the other ceramic base screws directly into the top of the lantern, and Humphrey/Paulin cloth mantles are tied to the groove in it, using drawstrings. like the lanterns here, they are pink on top, over-sized, and form an egg-shaped mantle after being installed, burnt, an fired up with gas. The listing says these fit most lamps. I assumed they meant Paulin/Humphrey lamps, which are by far the dominant copper piped propane lamps for cabins, and for RV's in the not so recent past. I didn't have any of these lamps at home--they were 11 hours drive away, up north. So I bought these, not having carefully read the dimensions, but even if I had, I couldn't have measured mine to check for fit. Once they arrived, they looked too small. i went to an RV dealer who still had some of the Humphrey/Paulin ones in stock. He did not have the porcelain drop down type--those are preformed and hard mantles sold in a little box, and very hard to find today. We measured, with digital calipers, the outer diameter of the ceramic fitting just above the groove the mantles would be tied to. The dimensions were much larger than these mantles--they were 1.40 in. diameter at the top of the upper ring of the round ceramic (porcelain) fitting; and they were 1.27 in. width inside the mantle tying groove. The seller shows a diagrammed photo of the fitting, and also specifies it in the write-up. This mantle fitting is 1.18 in. at the widest part, and 0.79 in. at some unclear inner diameter. The mantles are far too small for the Humphrey lantern, but I think they are too large in tie-down diameter for a Coleman Propane Lantern. I am not aware of any outside propane lamps in the U.S. which are about this size, and assume these were made for an international market. They are well made, though the porcelain tops are not as robust as the Humphrey ones. The mantles look and feel to be of high quality. They are packaged in a thin, small cardboard box which is about twice the size of a zippo lighter. I am giving a rating of four because the quality looks good, but the seller should have made it very clear that they would not fit the Paulin/Humphrey gas lamps, and should have made it clear just what brands of lights (and countries sold in) are, to avoid buyers unwittingly purchasing mantles they can't use.
