I wanted to add some more airflow to my server rack and picked up this externally powered fan. It feels like it is well built, but I am always concerned with longevity in a fan that is going to run a lot. It has a nice long cable included which will be helpful. There are controls on the cable to set different fan speeds. I wish it had a thermal sensor of some sort, but that would add some more electronics to it. The fan moves a lot of air on high and is loud when spinning that fast, but the noise is to be expected for a fan at that speed. My biggest concern is how long the bearing will last, but only time will tell.

Nice, quiet fan. I installed these into the side of my sons computer desk as a means to better cool his computer tower and I was surprised at how good of a job they do. Super easy to install and use!

This is a nice fan assembly and was easily integrated into one of my projects where I needed a fan. I appreciated the inclusion of speed control since at it's highest setting, the fan noise was definitely audible. It's not that the fans are overly loud, it's just a case of fans this size will have some noise at the speed it was run at.Recommended if it's the right fit for your project/furniture where exhausting of equipment heat is needed!

This cooling solution is the ticket. We've placed regular small fans in our cabinet that almost seem to make it warmer. This circulates a good amount of cool air while keeping the sound level low. Great solution.

This fan is perfect for window ventilation for kitchen. It’s quiet and you can feel the air flushing through. I would recommend this for kitchen vent since it helps with control the cooking smog.

I wanted something with the ability to manually control air flow for my gaming cabinet. This has a control switch on it and was easy to install. The cabinet does a great job staying cool now.

I got this unit and the 4-inch fan from the same product line, and while this is generally the superior product, it is not at all what I would call quiet. To be fair, it does move a lot of air even on low, and if you have a high-end receiver or game console in a sealed cabinet, you need a lot of airflow. I was really just hoping it wouldn't make a noticeable noise. It's not just the sound of moving air, either; it's a distinct motor hum. It helps a lot if you use a standard 5V USB charger to power this instead of the 6.5V charger provided, but it still makes a distinct motor noise on all speed settings. Depending on your background noise, your particular living room setup, and/or what you're watching or playing, you might not notice it at all, but you likely will during any quiet parts. It's a very high-quality all-in-one solution, especially since you can daisy-chain the fans together and at least control them turning on with the first fan in the chain (the others... sort of inherit the speed settings, but not exactly, so getting them all to spin the exact same speed is all but impossible, if that bugs you).I opened one up to see how it works and if the fan could be replaced, and the control module is passing voltage to the fan through 2 wires, so it looks like the controller is limiting voltage rather than using a PWM signal, hence the motor noise. 5V fans (such as the ones in these enclosures) generally don't like being run at any voltage other than 5V and make noise when that happens. In fact, if you daisy-chain 2 together and put them both on low, the voltage to the second fan will be so low it won't even be enough to start up (fans need extra voltage to start up and then less to maintain), and it will just sit there and buzz. It's an attractive housing, and for an all-in-one thing with all the accessories you would need to mount it to your home theater cabinet, it can legitimately extend the life of your electronics. Depending on what you're running, the fan of that thing might be louder than this anyway. I, however, am going to see if I can sacrifice an old 120mm Noctua fan and splice it in for some true peace and quiet.
