Best to stick with the plastic. We tried the aluminum and it did not work. Was glad to find this one. Fit perfectly no issues. Car no longer having issues.

As you can see in the pictures. Star housing only lasted 3 months the before leaking. The supplied gasket is junk and you can see it totally flattened out. Pay the extra $50 for oem which will not last forever, but least years.

One of GM not so great ideas thermostat made into a cheap plastic housing instead of an aluminum one that might have saved a nickel at the time of manufacture but has to be replaced every 5-10 years usually right after you replace the hose connector at the other end of the motor so you get to drain and refill the antifreeze multiple times.
