I can bring a cold drum of chainsaw bar oil into the heated shop at 8 am, and by noon I can pump it into jugs! Nice, it used to take all day or more to do this, depending on weather. Those drums take up space when inside the shop, it is nice to get them emptied and outside sooner.

With this 55 gallon drum heater band from the PeakRider Store you can turn your 55 gallon drum into a hot tank for cleaning parts, or anything else that needs warming up or can stand up to 300 degrees. The heater needs to be in tight contact with the drum, and don't use amore than one extension cord, and that cord needs to be heavy gauge. I wouldn't use less than12 gauge, or a length over about 15 or maybe 20 feet. If the cord warms up it isn't heavy duty enough.I'm making a hot tank, but you are limited to your imagination. The product page shows it being used on plastic drums, but I wouldn't personally do that. I think it gets too hot, and the thermostat is only sort-of accurate.

I wish the minimum temp went lower than 86°. It would be way more useful and versatile that way. That's just a personal thing though. The drum heater does what it advertises. It functions well, fits just fine, and seems like it's built out of high quality materials. Feels durable and like it will last a long time (as long as electronics don't fail). Even the cord is excellent. A very thick gauge wire that won't get damaged easily. I'd say it's a good value.

The heater works great. I did not use the thermometer or the heat controller that came with it, I used my own thermometer to control it. But it heats fast and does a great job keeping 15 gallons at 85°. It does get hot to the touch, so I would not place anything over it nor would I place it near anything that could melt. I would buy it again.

Fits 10gal steel drums almost perfectly. Heats up very fast and regulates temp well.First use does put off some strong odors so definitely use it outside first few times.Thermostat works great. Heats to target temp, "clicks" off until temp cools enough to turn back on.The power cord is very soft and flexible, even in cold weather. Very nice compared to the typical pvc/plastic coated cords that go stiff in cold temps.Overall happy with the purchase and would buy again.

If I were using this on a metal 5 gallon drum it would get a solid 4 stars. I was attracted to the item because the description called for use on honey drums and water buckets. For storing honey, we use the kind of food quality plastic buckets from big box stores that have wire handles and slight taper from the top to the bottom. Unfortunately, despite the description saying it can be used on plastic, I did not have much luck using it on our buckets. The instructions clearly state that there should be no gaps between the band and the item being heated, and since it is designed to fit a barrel that is the same width across from top to bottom, there is a large gap at the bottom when being wrapped around such a bucket. I WAS able to do a "test run" on a plastic bucket though, and found that over a 12 hour period of time. when set to the minimum temperature on the dial, this band heated water from 64° F to 94° F. When in the heat-generating mode, the band itself gets REALLY hot, in excess of 150° F which concerns me when using with plastic containers. It's not just the possibility of melting the plastic, but also "cooking" the honey that is in direct contact with the bucket/barrel where the band is located, although this might be a concern as well on metal barrels. The enclosed instructions are very clear on how to operate this band safely when applying to metal drums, but does not say anything about using this product on plastic containers. There is no warning about keeping the thermostat set to below 100° as is mentioned on the Amazon listing. As hot as this band gets during the heating mode, their admonition to not leave the device unattended is very good advice. As an aside; this band emits a very strong chemical odor when heating; at first I thought the bucket was melting until I determined the odor was coming from the band itself. If I needed this for heating a metal barrel filled with water or some other liquid that isn't particular about temperature, this would be perfect.
