I had never heard of a sausage picker, until I stumbled upon this product on Amazon. I make my own homemade Italian and often purchase homemade Kielbasa from a local Ukrainian shop in my area. Until I found this sausage picker, I used a small thin sewing needle to poke holes in the casing before browning my sausage before putting the Kielbasa in the oven to bake, or before browning the homemade Italian sausage to cook in the gravy (pasta) sauce. At age 80 the finger are very arthritic and trying to hold a small thin needle is difficult. This sausage picker is easy to hold onto the the thin "spikes" make a nice tiny small hole in the casing. (You need to poke holes in the casing so the fat in the meat has a place to drain out of the casing. If the grease has no place to go, it will explode the casing and then you wind up with ground pork as opposed to links of sausage. It is an inexpensive item, that does an amazing job and makes the process of cooking your sausage so much easier.
