That black fabric is strong and waterproof.Just slide something higher than the barrel’s edge in the centre underneath so that the rain water doesn’t puddle on top.

I lost my cover to a recyclable can. This worked great. Protects the can from rain and snow entering.

These are NOT waterproof.I carefully installed them on (4) x 55gallon metal barrels with lids on, and carefully tented up the center of each using a bunch of plastic bags, and even with the 'tenting' to help the water run off, in an 8" rain storm over two days, all the drum lids had some water collected on top.The fabric itself is waterproof, but the SEAM around the fabric is not waterproof.

I store water in a few blue barrels with solid tops. The sun beats on them and while the blue plastic bears up, it’s rough on the screw-in bungs. I got these covers to protect them and keep dust and insects off the tops. They come with drawstrings and are adjustable.Tip: before putting one over your drum, pull the drawstrings on both sides and slide the fabric along those so you have them nearly to size before you install it on your drum. That makes it a lot easier.

I ordered these covers for winterizing my rain barrels. These covers are made of a strong, water repellant fabric with a locking drawstring to secure the top to the barrel. I drain my barrels during the freezing months. It is difficult to keep water from seeping in and freezing. These covers look like they will keep my barrels dry when used.
