My last baby arrived early and had a surprise stay in the NICU, and I really wished I had some colostrum banked in our freezer for him. This pregnancy, I’m wanting to be more prepared for any scenario. Even if all is well, it’s still nice to have some colostrum stored so that dad can help out with a feeding in a pinch. I have tried a Haaka reusable silicone colostrum kit in the past, but that didn’t work for me because the colostrum amounts were so small that it just dried up inside the collector before they could even be used. I felt like all of my hard work was wasted. I think with these syringes being so small, it is more practical, even if it can’t be washed and reused. I love that they’re sterile and individually packaged. The labels are also great for safe freezer storage! Pro tip: collect your colostrum first before opening the syringe package. I have wasted syringes after failed attempts to collect colostrum.
