Needed wing nuts to hold trailer panels held but easily removed. Wing nuts were needed. These ere easy to get and a decent price.

I make toys for parrots and other hookbills. Zinc and other base metals are toxic to parrots. Stainless Steel and Nickel-plated are bird-safe metals. I prefer stainless steel - with nickel plated there are concerns about how well the plating was applied & how well it's adhered to the metal being plated. There are many uses for wing nuts as they don't require tools to install them. They're good for attaching perches to the sides of a cage, holding blocks of wood on a threaded stainless steel rod, etc. My favorite use for stainless steel wing nuts is as additions to bolts used on several of my toys. The photo shows a parrot playing with the wing nut on a two bolt & sliding latch toy. They enjoy turning the wing nut with their tongue and moving it to the top or the bottom of the bolt. The wing nuts can't be removed from this series of toy - the holes in the plexiglass are threaded and the bolt is attached with a lock nut plus a jam nut.The threads on the wing nuts are cleanly cut and, to date, none have had faulty threads. Harpo (the bird in the photo) agrees the wing nuts are good...he thinks they're the best part of the toy.

Ease of use. These are used for holding together hurricane shutters. The shutters are through bolted and the design holds the sides together with ease of tightening. Also not affected by weather.

Using these to hold vent covers to the foundation walls of the house. They should withstand rust and corrosion. We'll see.
