Mine came folded a bit, doubled up at least once in the box, but unfolded just fine. The box would have to have been much larger to fully accommodate an unfolded gasket. Unboxed, it laid flat easily; no warming up or waiting time was required. Without going into too much detail, it installed easily and uneventfully enough. The kit includes a new seal, which some people opt to ignore when doing the filter replacement. To each his own. There is a tool available that makes removal of the old seal easier; it should be available for rental at an auto parts store. It's not a bank breaker if you wish to buy the tool. Something lying around the shop may also work, but a screwdriver and hammer are not recommended for removal of the old seal. The new seal included with this kit should tap into place with the help of a soft hammer and perhaps a socket about 7/8" or so. After the transmission filter housing and cover are properly cleaned with some kind of degreaser, the new filter should slide into place. No instructions were included with my kit, and I found various numbers regarding torque. I opted for 12 ft-lbs of torque in a crisscross pattern after finger-tightening each bolt. A bit of transmission fluid was used to coat the gasket and any bolts, just like the seal. A long funnel or funnel extension for adding new fluid is essential for reaching the fluid input directly on top of the transmission. I found the pan bolts to be 8 mm and the side weep bolt 11 mm. Literature indicates the transmission should be warmed up and in the operating mode in order to fully top it off, which should be around 6.6 quarts, but that's not what this review is about. Your results may vary. The filter kit is of excellent quality and easy to work with when proper time and patience are allotted. Full five stars.
