If this was stainless steel a magnet would not stick to it. Also it would be much heavier. These may be chrome plated aluminum (?).

This item is what I was looking for. Can't explain it but these snap hooks are my birds favorite toy. They are really hard to find in stainless steel because stainless steel is a safe metal for birds. She's very happy and I'm happy for her.
