My (old now) MacBook Air from 2010 was suffering from overheating a few years after I got it.I replaced the thermal paste and eventually swapped it for liquid metal , which improved thermals, but upgrading it to newer versions of OS X just kept the CPU high most of the time I use it.Concerned to see again sky high temperatures, I just ordered these, and basically coated the copper heat pipes of the MacBook Air with thermal grease, the stickiest I had, the thermalgrizzly conductonaut.I used one of these bar to sit over the heat pipe, and also one of the VRM , but I did NOT put any thermal interface between the bar and the chassis of the Mac, as this otherwise would be a safety hazard. These can output easily temperatures in the orders of 80+C , so already I can feel it very hot when in use at the bottom of the body, so I tried to keep heat insulated in the copper bar as a thermal "buffer" rather than conduct the heat to the body of the Mac, which would then render it extremely uncomfortable to use.So far so good, dropped a good 20C on average thanks to the thermal inertia this piece of copper has, that can accommodate quite burst of the CPU without its thermals jumping up and down as it used to before.
