In order to install firmly, the axle dust cap is slightly larger by design. You need to knock it into place using a wood block and hammer or rubber mallet, to prevent denting the cap while installing

These work well, but I had to put a 2x4 block over the cap and hammer it in evenly. At least I know it wont work its way loose. Used on dexter 6000lb axel.
