INTENDED USE: underwater, snorkeling in GalĂĄpagos IslandsPOSITIVES⢠inexpensive vs. other options (~$50)⢠sturdy case⢠it floats (more-or-less)⢠waterproof to at least 10', although some moisture observed inside battery compartment⢠memory good for at least 2 weeks of snorkeling (>40 photos + 81 videos)⢠better than nothing and occasionally get reasonably good pictures (see fish above)⢠video surprisingly good⢠all the buttons work underwater⢠battery has good staying power (lasted up to 4 ~1hr snorkeling sessions)NEGATIVES (using the 'high sensitivity' and other 'normal' camera settings throughout)⢠This is a fixed focus camera (like an old brownie box camera), not autofocus. Minimum focus distance is unspecified but seems to be OK at 3 ' (above waterâsee penguin shot above). Nothing moves in the camera.⢠Very wide-angle lens (the penguin shot above was taken about 3' from the penguin)⢠The specs are false: this camera does not have an optical zoom, or really any kind of zoom, other than blowing up a region of the image. Also see comment on motion effects below.⢠There is a delay between pressing the shutter button and recording the image. At 1st when I took pictures of fish, I found a vacant screen: the fish had left before the shutter opened! The delay is ~0.3-0.5s.⢠Under-water everything is moving (the fish, you, the camera, colorful fan-corals etc). In addition to being slow to start-record, the shutter speed is also too slow to freeze motion and minimize blurring in still shots. Just about every picture I took underwater is blurry (the 2 colored coral pics above). The so-called digital zoom is useless: blowing up a blurry picture yields a much worse blurry picture. Either this is due to slow shutter, or it is due to the camera's missing focus functionality. The video works better as the recording flows with the motion.⢠Also the '48MP' pixel over-sampling creates images of tiny dots, like a pointillist painting (blow up the turtle shot above and you'll see) which also renders the 'digital zoom' futile.⢠The LCD screen is dim underwater. It is difficult to see what on the screen with a diving mask and intervening see: best to stick to bright objects.⢠The camera comes in an unbranded box: you don't know who made it (other than in China, which is fine by me). However others in the party had very similar cameras but different colors, some with a WIFI transfer function. It's unclear whether these were made by a different company or have the same issues note above (buyer beware).SUMMARYI am glad I bought the camera vs. not have anything to remind me of the amazing undersea vistas I saw. However I am disappointed with its performance. There were 9 other people on this trip. In my opinion the best results by a significant margin were obtained by another using a waterproof case on an iPhone (16), for about the same or less cost. This produced much sharper pictures, despite the much lower MP. A blurry 48MP has lower resolution than a 4MP image with a fast shutter and wide (f) lens. So I would not buy this camera again. Instead I would (and will likely) go with the waterproof phone case option if I do something like this trip again. However I understand that the phone case option requires having to set it up before you go underwater.

The only thing I didn't care for was the sound it made, so I turned it off. Easily done in the menu. I was surprised by all the options available in it. I haven't gone swimming with it yet but am looking forward to taking it snorkeling. Amazing value for the cost.Update: I got great pictures, but the back screen now has a thin line across the middle. It doesn't affect the pictures which is a relief.

Was on vacation in Maui. On a whale watching boat. I used a selfie stick with the camera to capture whales under water. I was pleasantly surprised. Well worth the price.

My child really liked the camera. The pictures are good and water-permeable. Unforgettable emotions can be 100% obtained by taking pictures underwater. I recommend!

It has a few quirks - like I had to pull the battery, count to 10, and reseat it every time I wanted to charge the camera. Fortunately I figured that out before our snorkel and manta ray trips in Hawaii
