Usage suggestions and precautions

Autofocus Failure

Explanation:

Close-up lenses reduce the effective depth of field and may confuse autofocus systems, which struggle with shallow focus planes and low-contrast subjects (e.g., macro details).

Suggestion:

Switch to manual focus and use live view with focus peaking.

Increase light (e.g., ring light) to improve contrast for AF.

Stop down the aperture (e.g., f/5.6–f/8) to widen the focus area temporarily.

Optical Distortion

Explanation:

Close-up lenses (diopters) can introduce chromatic aberration (color fringing) and geometric distortion (curved lines) due to uncorrected lens elements. Wide-angle lenses exacerbate this due to their inherent field curvature.

Suggestion:

Shoot at smaller apertures (e.g., f/8–f/11) to minimize edge softness.

Correct distortion post-processing (e.g., Lightroom/Photoshop).

Stacking Different Diopters

Explanation:

Combining diopters (e.g., +2 + +4) increases magnification but compounds optical flaws like vignetting, chromatic aberration, and softness. Thicker stacks may also block light.

Suggestion:

Avoid stacking unless necessary. Use the strongest single diopter (e.g., +4) for critical work.

If stacking, pair low-power diopters (e.g., +1 + +2) .

Test for vignetting/sharpness before shooting.

Corner sharpness is ruined, a lot of fringing after adding higher number of magnification

I'm a professional photographer trying to my own business started. I was taking some jewelery shots but can't afford a whole new macro lens. These really do the trick! The +10 has too much abberration to be considered professional quality but i'm excited to try it out in my experimental work. Overall if you're looking for something to tide you over before you get a macro lens or don't wanna spend the money these work fine.

To begin, I am not a professional photographer. But, I do want to dabble in macro photography and this is an affordable way to begin without having to pay for expensive macro lenses.I would not call these “filters” but rather, they are “close up lenses”. There are four lenses in this set… +1, +2, +4, and +10. These are nicely made as they have a metal frame. They easily screwed onto my Canon lens. Of course, there was an immediate difference as things became close up. These were things that I had difficulty focusing on prior to receiving these lenses. The seller’s pictures do give you a good idea as to what to expect when using these. Each lens is marked on the rim, so you know the magnification. They come in a nice carrying pouch, but the lenses themselves are in small plastic bags. Given that I will not use them everyday, that is okay with me but for someone who will use these a lot, you might want to find a set of sleeves to use before putting them in the carry pouch.I was able to still use my autofocus with these lenses but it is my understanding that sometimes manual focus works better. It is a factor of what camera you are mounting these on. These do not give the exact quality of a true macro lens but these are an affordable solution for those who do not want to pay that kind of money. This is a really nice set for those who want to get into macro photography.

Although I’m sure these are great but nothing tells you what filter is for what!

This set is great with a small Telephoto on the Beastgrip Pro. I use it for closeup stills and videos and it’s great. My friends asked what my setup was and were surprised I wasn’t shooting with a DSLR.
