The place I buy my RTV from was always the cheapest at around $5/ tube. One day they raised their price to $20/tube, for the same cheap crap. That's like premium quality RTV prices. These end up around $8/tube, which is fine. As far as I can tell, it's the same basic black RTV as my shop has always used. We're a transmission shop, so it's being used to seal pretty much everything engine or transmission. It has not given me any indication of trouble yet, already gone through 4 tubes. Personally I have not seen any benefit to using the expensive stuff. Surface prep and cleanliness is key.
