I got these to secure some steel eyelets to a 1/4” steel beam as an anchor point for a shade sail since I didn’t know if I needed #8, #10 or #12 fasteners (it was #12). I also needed at least 16 for the four eyelets plus a couple extra just in case.Well “just in case” turned into “most of the time” since only about 1 in 4 of these actually worked. I started off with the 1-1/2” #8 fasteners and drilled them directly into the beam before quickly realizing that wasn’t going to work well. I was using a drill driver on around 9 torque at low speed before quickly realizing I needed to put it onto drill to make a dent in the steel. I got through the steel ok and still technically had some tip left to spare. Once I started on the thread, I dropped the torque back down to the highest setting to try and drive the fastener. I got a 1/4 of the fastener in before the drill started to cam out. I knew this was a bad sign, but cautiously switched back over to drill to try and ease the fastener in. It obviously snapped the head of the fastener.I switched over to the #10 fastener since it fit the eyelet hole and I hoped the thicker diameter would give it some more tensile strength. Second one was much better and went in ok though it still struggled even at the highest clutch setting. Third one snapped. Fourth snapped. At this point I gave up trying to use the self-screwing tip and got a cobalt bit out to drill pilot holes. I also switched over to the #12 1-1/4” and had some luck on the first. Then the second and third snapped and the fourth went in.I’m not an expert at all so it could have been user error somewhere. Might be I wasn’t screwing dead on center or pushing too hard or not pushing hard enough. Any way I cut it though, I was hoping these would work, but they just didn’t.These Tek no. 3 fasteners are really meant for sheet metal. I just don’t think they are meant to hold up in anything as thick as my application. That said, even with pilot holes drilled, they failed. So I’m not sure Tek 4 or 5 of the same screw would have worked any better. If you’re using these for sheet metal, I’m sure they’ll be fine. They have the washer as well which is nice for outdoor applications. If you’re doing anything with a heavier gauge, you probably want to get better screws.

I bought 2 of these. Seem to be exactly what I wanted. But you guys need to tape shut the plastic boxes that the screws come in. Both boxes were open and all the screws were mixed. The last thing I want to do is sort out 840 screws. Really .

Already used a bunch of these to mount some signs. These work great, and they cut through sheet metal very easily. No complaints!

This set looks solid to me. There are 2 different head sizes, 7mm and 8mm. SAE size will also fit. That’s not a big deal - larger screws typically have larger heads. Some reviewers called this an issue. It’s not.The larger sizes have a clear sealing washer that is removable. The smaller sizes do not have the washer. There is no discussion of the washer in the Amazon description that I could find but there are photos on the web page. See my photos.I used a few of these screws on soft steel, wood and aluminum, no issues. I also used them to attach some stainless steel 2 hole cable clamps to my house, worked great.I would not try to self drill these screws into hard materials like stainless steel or thicker steel. You’re asking for trouble as some reviewers discovered.Stainless screws are hard but brittle and they will snap when used in the wrong materials like stainless steel sheet stock and thicker soft steel. The storage case for this assortment is decent quality, an often overlooked positive feature. I’d rather pay a few extra bucks for a good case.Overall this is great assortment. When used properly these fasteners will work well and thrive in the outdoors.

Beware! Cheap junk probably from China. I bought this because I needed the longest screw and figured I would use the rest eventually. When installed in a socket drill bit attachment, the screw tip wobbles in a 1'4 diameter circle and cannot possibly drill a hole. Worthless. Missed that return deadline, so into the trash.
