We have a maple tree (that I am trying to cut down) so I figured I would try this out since it sounded cool and I've seen it in movies/tv a lot. We got maybe a small drip but its winter so I'm not expecting any production really. Slapped a bucket on it and covered it from the rain and I can't wait until more comes out, what did come out was a little dirty but thats the fun of trying something new I guess. Easy to hammer in, the kids like it.

Best taps I have bought. I won’t be wasting my timeWith leaking plastic taps anymore! Well built and strong metal. No problems at all hitting with hammer. Great value!

Taps and hoses work great. Nice heavy stainless steel.Only giving 3 stars because one of the taps was not drilled out, so it didn't work. Only way to get a new one is to return the package. Can't return the three I have in trees now...I tried to drill it out but its better metal than my drill bits are made for....

Seems to work okay but the product description should advise customers that they need a 7/ 16 inch drill bit. I did not have one and had to use a 1/2 inch drill bit and my holes are too big for the spiles. Now I have to decide if I'm going to plug the holes and drill new ones, or deal with a little bit of leaking. I wrapped some electrical tape around the spiles to try to and close the gap on the 1/2 inch holes. Anyway, all of this would have been avoided if the description said I need a 7/16 drill bit.

This is a good kit for collecting sap. The spiles are stainless and easy to clean with the little brushes supplied in the kit. The piping fits well and stays on the spile securely. These should last for years and years. I only tap 4 trees and produce about 2 or 3 gallons of maple syrup per year. [My conversion ratio is about 45:1.] Collecting the sap is the easy part, made slightly easier with this kit. The hard part is the cook. No reverse osmosis for me. That's cheating.

I've been wanting to tap maple trees for their sap since I was a little kid. This year is as good as any to give it a try. This kit will get you started with stainless hardware and tubing you can run down to a food grade container. I have three large maples that should yield enough sap to give me a taste of homemade maple syrup this Spring and this kit should be enough to handle the task.

This is an average price for a set of stainless steel spiles with tubing and cleaning brushes.I cannot speak for their operation until the Spring maple syrup season. But these are standard tools that anyone who has tapped trees is familiar with. There are no hooks for hanging buckets so be aware of this. The tubes are folded into the bag so they are kinked a bit but do not seem to block them fully when unfolded. The metal spiles have ridges to hold them into the tree better. They feel solid in the hands.

[Note: this is just an initial review of the physical characteristics of the product I received. I will update the review after I'm able to tap our maples in the spring of 2025.]Everything matches the description. The spiles are stainless steel, with a fine taper at the tapping end, and a ribbed nipple for attaching the hoses. These spikes do not have hanging hooks, so they're intended to be used with receptacles on the ground. The tubing comes folded up, so I plan to remove it from the packaging and let it stand for a while to remove any kinks before the sap starts running. The packaging comes with no instructions, so it assumes you have a basic knowledge of the spiles and their use.
