An inexpensive way to keep your chisels and plane blades sharp. Work great, last a long time and comes out way cheaper than using sandpaper.

Ok so, my plates are marked 400, 600, 1000, 1200, the 400 and 600 are swapped and the 1000 and 1200 are swapped. It's ok as long as you can tell the difference and mark them yourself. I'll have to get through the break in to tell if it's actually a 1200 grit, if they were unmarked I would guess they were, 400, 600, 800 and 1000. They do work though and cut fast. If you need some plates and don't have a lot of coin. After a good amount of use it does seem they are marked correctly, it’s just that they had so much diamond that wasn’t adhered that it made them crazy rough. The grits are not what they say though for sure. It seems like the lowest plate is a 300 and the 1200 is actually a 600, maybe.

I and a friend used this set of "stones" to sharpen three chisels and three plane irons. They were all in pretty rough condition. We created a simple sharpening station, gluing the stones to 12" melamine, leaving 5" open on one side. These stones are only 2.5" x 6", much smaller than the expensive 3x8 plates. To use the full extent of the stones, we glued down two layers of linoleum in front of the stones, so we could roll the honing guide on either the linoleum or the stones themselves e.We used cheap glass cleaner to help remove the swarf. We relied on the 400 grit stone to hog off the steel, until we'd removed the worst dings and divots, and got to our desired primary bevel of 25 degrees. MAN. The speed at which the 400 grit stone removed steel (first flattening the back, then the cutting bevel) was surprising, we had to frequently wipe off the black swarf-water and add more lubricant. We used the 600 grit stone to refine the back, and the bevel, then changed our guide to 30 degrees and used the last two stones (1000 and 1200 grit) first to further clean up the back, then to create a polished secondary bevel on the cutting edge. After removing the burrs, and honing on a strop, we tested the tools' edges -- all performed flawlessly.I went through this process only to show how much we actually punished these stones on their first use. We cleaned them and dried them...and they still look great. We truly weren't expecting much...but based on Rex Krueger's recent review, we decided to try them out. They may not last as long as the high-priced stones, but they work, and they are inexpensive. I don't mean "cheap", I said inexpensive.

the fit and finish are kind of lacking, and it's two metal sheets glued together with a surface coating of diamond particles. for the price it might as well be amazing. it's ugly stained and just generally rough around the edges. but as a tool it should work well and is well worth the price.it can cut easily dry or wet. and has plenty of uses being a diamond stone, it also cuts fast.
