For scouting, you've got to be prepared. Even if you're not planning on overnighting, you'd better have something just in case. This is small enough to hide in the backpack without a lot of added weight.

These work more or less as advertised. Initial quality is decent and they do remain warm. I was unable to efficienctly repack them though.

This is a great pack of these survival blanket/tents. Each one comes in it's own small nylon bag that even has a whistle attached. They are lightweight, bright orange and fit in the palm of your hand. We live in the northeast and something like this should definitely belong in a car emergency kit. There's even room in the bag to add smaller items like a small lighter or some string.After putting one in each vehicle I had one left over that went into my hiking bag. A small price for a piece of mind!

When I was younger the only emergency bags were those very thin mylar type. These are thicker and more sturdy, more resistant to tearing. In a cold climate these are super handy to have in the trunk of your car all the time or in your emergency kit for at home if the power goes out. Alternatively if you're in the heat they're great for reflecting the Sun and keeping you cool as well. It has an emergency whistle on the drawstring too.
