Wrist and hand support

I purchased this sander to work with solid surface counter tops. I'm a professional remodeller, and occasionally need to repair or re-purpose Corian countertops. Recently, I needed to take an old kitchen top that had several scratches in it, and re-work it to be used in a classroom with two small sinks. I started by using my Festool 5" electric ro sander with 80 grit, working through to 180 grit. That got the scratches out. I then switched to this 3M 6" air sander, using Mirka paper/pads. I worked from 220 grit up to P3000 grit, starting out dry, then adding water for the final grits, and the finish was perfect! As soon as I started using the 3M sander, I knew I was going to love it! There was practically no vibration (I have the 3/16" orbit model), it fits well in my hand, and it glided smoothly over the Corian, both dry and wet. Next time, I'm skipping the Festool and using the 3M for ALL the grits. It's smoother, lighter, and quieter! I had planned on purchasing rubbing compounds and buffer wheels for my electric buffer to get a higher gloss, but the customer was happy with the sheen I achieved with going to P3000 grit with the 3M sander. Happy customer, and I saved $$$. One thing, though, the Mirka discs are not oversize at all, so you have to line them up perfectly on the backing pad, or you'll have some of the "hooks" showing, which will wear them down and might scratch the surface you're working on. The 3M's look oversized in the videos, but my local painter's supply didn't stock the grits I wanted. The counter guy suggested the Mirka brand, which I am already familiar with from the woodworking I do. They performed very well on the Corian, so now I can stock the same brand in my shop for both wood and Corian.

I did love this sander, but after only 3 years, 2 times to be serviced because the motor was gone. I bought a brand new one thinking it would be different....nope! Not even 2 months out of this 1,same problem...junk motor.

Even though the sander I received was an obvious return (broken packaging, dusty, dirty). This is a great sander. I chose the 5/16 hoping for a sander that can rapidly remove wood without damage. This thing eats it up. At about 1/5 the weight of my Festool, I know I will be using this alot. I think I'll add on of the less aggressive ones to go with it for final clean up.

Does a lot better job sanding then electric orbiter sander. A lot faster and so easy to handle. You must have a compressor large enough to run it. Great for wood workers, professional or just hobbyist.
