These aren't NEARLY as thick as they appear on the image of them in a drill. They're a half inch thick at best! They do a fair job or stripping old latex paint but they aren't very durable. I've done 18 feet of a 2x6 and it's about done for.

2yrs ago I was diagnosed with a sevear lower back issue. So my beloved BBQ pit was left outside under a tarp for 2 yrs. After that time, I could not sit around every day in pain. So when I decided to BBQ. I found my lovely BBQ pit completely rusted and in very bad shape. Most people would have thrown my pit to the curve and purchased a new one. My pit is no longer made and has features you can not get today with the cheap pits you find at the stores, it has thick metal panels and SS parts. I purchased several rust and paint removal wheels. With a sevear back issue, I needed the best wheel for the job that would do the job with the less effort possible. This 3M wheel ran circles around several other wheels I purchased. If I didnt have this wheel, I would have never completed the job. This 3M wheel saved me alot of pain and saved my beloved BBQ pit. It stripped the rust and paint with very little effort. My wife thought I was going to start this project and never finish it and would be back in the hospital getting spine injections, which has happened in the past. I cant say enough about this wheel. When I started using it after trying other wheels first, I grabbed my phone and ordered another one from Amazon. My pitt Is very large with a top burned, gas grill, coal grill and smoker. I completed this whole grill only using 1 and a half 3M wheel. Trust me, I abused these wheels and they stood up to every bit of abuse. I also ordered another one just to have a new one in my tool box. Dont waist money purchasing other wheels like I did before finding the perfect tool. Hope you enjoy the pics of my pit. It came out perfect and just had to add the flames. THANK YOU 3M for saving me pain and saving my beloved BBQ pit

Used this to clean rust off my car frame. Works better than a wire cup brush, faster and gets to bare metal. Will clean to bare shiny metal so ideal for metal paint prep. Stripping paint can take a little more time, but works well. It is a consumable so it will gradually shed material until it is gone so might not be ideal for massive jobs in terms of expense from replacing them. Its a time vs money deal.

I've now used this to strip two cast iron pans down to bare metal for re-seasoning. The first pan the seasoning was flaking off in a couple spots (nothing major but I figured it would become a problem at some point down the line). The factory seasoning and any that had built up over the course of about a year came off both sides of a 12 inch skillet in about 25 minutes. I didn't need to strip the sides or bottom but figured while I was at it why not.The second pan was an 8 inch size but did actually have some rust covering about 1/3 of the cooking surface. The rust actually came off faster than the seasoning! All told it took somewhere in the 10-15 minute range to strip that pan for re-seasoning.I think if they didn't have too much rust I could strip at least two more pans with the same brush but your mileage may vary.

Pros:Strips mutiple layers of exterior paint very wellDoes not damage the woodGets into places an orbital or belt sander can'tCons:Not really a con, more a product request: wish more sizes were available (smaller)We wanted to strip down our garage doors and door trim from the paint and stain that was in place. This was purchased to remove multiple layers of paint from the wood frame/trim. There were small indentations in the design on the trim which made orbital or belt sanding impossible. So we gave this product a try.Popped it into the drill and this thing stripped the paint right off, though it took more than a little muscle effort holding the drill for that long! However it was the only thing that did it quickly and without damaging the wood. We tried numerous ways to get the paint off the trim, this included paint removal spray, heat gun, scraper attachment for reciprocating saw, sanding blocks, etc. This was by far the best for our specific application.I attached two picture to see the scope of the overall project, and to give you an idea of how long this stripper brush will last. The whole trim took about 1 and a half of these brushes but keep in mind it had many layers of exterior paint on the wood. The second picture shows that there was not damage to the wood underneath. So I learned a new trick/tool in my home reno repertoire, will use this tool for stripping paint and varnish in hard to reach places. Will use the belt sander for flat horizontal surfaces and orbital sander for vertical flats.Good tool would by it again.

Used this paint stripper wheel on some wooden cabinet fronts. When working on wood you have to be very careful with tool angle and pressure as it can easily gouge woodwork. However, on flat surfaces it worked quite well, loosening latex and alkyd paint enough to finish either by hand or with a putty knife. The wheel easily strips paint off metal hinges, and after about 3 hours of use there's little noticeable wear. Way better than using stripping chemicals or a heat gun. Worth a try.

Have 18 ft of wrought iron railing (w/vertical posts every 6" and 3 sections of curving decoration) that has gathered 50+ yrs of paint and rust. I use liquid stripper first, then finish up w/these. Lowes ran out and we had to buy a lesser version that was the wheel brush and parts to assemble it to drill bit...and the brush was a very substandard/poor imitation of 3M's version of wheel brush with bit attached. If you happen across the 'needing assembly' one, don't bother buying. The wheel brush MELTS and looses effectiveness. As for the 3M wheel brush, I got a good 5ft of stripping done before wearing down completely. Plan your project so you're starting w/the larger areas first, and as the wheel wears down, tackle the smaller areas. For wrought iron nooks and crannies, it's very effective and even in the areas the liquid stripper did not work, the wheel removed at least 3 layers of paint and all the rust. Yes, I'm sure it also removes the metal along w/it, which is why I wouldn't recommend this for wood.
