This is a quality control issue. Black paint is already coming off out if the box. The main issue is that the vanes are bent and not evenly distributed. So much so that it will not spin freely. Company could have easily fixed this before sealing in glass but chose not to.

Looks nice but does not work due to the blades being out of balance.

Terrible quality control. The vanes are not evenly spaced, and when it does work it wobbles. I have another radiometer, and it works, but this one won't spin unless there is very bright sunlight. The good news is that this is a beautiful product. It just doesn't work. I wanted to put on my table next to wine glasses. The bad news is the sunlight would need to be so bright that it would be uncomfortable to drink wine.I have a radiometer that works, but it isn't beautiful. If you want a beautiful radiometer and don't care whether it works, this is the product for you.If you get one that was built correctly, this would be a 5 star product.

Excellent! At first I thought it wasn't working — had it in a window and it wasn't spinning at all (on a cloudy day). However, this little thing needs a lot of light to get going. On a sunny day or placed near a lamp, it spins on and on like a perpetual motion machine.

Although I found a little bit of debris inside the glass bulb (perhaps tiny bits of the paint used to coat the fins), I simply thumped the glass lightly until it dislodged and fell down the stem to where I couldn't see it anymore. When exposed to sunlight, it spins like a dream and it doesn't take much sunlight to do so. It will take a considerably larger amount of indoor lighting to accomplish the same thing, I think. Here's a video I took of mine when exposed to sunlight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PENyhnScKao
