My husband has used some of these for various projects (fencing, shed repair) outside after cleaning up after a tornado hit the property. So far these have been just fine to use. No issues. I would agree there is a residue on them, but we are usually wearing gloves when working outside and this has not caused a problem. So far so good. Using galvanized hardware will provide corrosion resistance, durability, longevity and give a clean/rust-free appearance.

This galvanized split lock washer is just like you purchase in the big box stores for considerably less money. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

This lock washer, or split washer as they are sometimes called, is sized correctly and proper thickness. There's not a whole lot to ask of a lock washer other than it close as intended to help the nut not come loose. Hot dipped finish fasteners are always rough so the appearance isn't neat and these are no different. These will be used to sister some floor joists together along with bolts, nuts, and flat washers.

No complaints here. These are pretty ugly washers, a dark and dingy color that will definitely leave zinc smudges on your fingers and anything else they might touch. But they're less than 9 cents each, and the hot-dipped galvanization means they should provide superior corrosion resistance.The fact that low carbon steel is used is pretty much irrelevant for lock washers, as they are meant to deform under compression anyway.4.5/5 stars. Cheap and effective, but just a little grimy when handling them.
