I found the plastic weak and it didn’t fit my railing securely. It tipped in the wind, crushed my plants and made a mess. It does in fact hold dirt.

These fit nice and snug on our railing and have the simple clean look like I wanted. I’m glad I read the reviews about punching out the drain holes because there’s nothing in the packaging that warns you to do that. (Turn it over and punch through the 2 recessed areas. There are some barely visible markings. I used a screwdriver & hammer). I do wish the drainage was diverted off the deck, I’m going to have to rig something up so the water doesn’t drain and splatter all over the deck. That would have been a nice touch especially for the price, I think these are way overpriced but I couldn’t find a comp I liked on Amazon. But overall I’m happy with the product itself!

Im just happy I bought something that turned out to be really nice. my favorite part is that the inner well fits nicely and deep over the railing I have. It also feels sturdy because it gets windy here

I see a lot of complaints about stability on balcony rails and I can definitely believe it. These get *heavy*. That said, they're perfectly stable on my deck railing and the water retention / drainage seems good. They aren't the prettiest in the world, and they do buckle a little. However, I was going for level water distribution for veggies, so they are great for me.

great for my herb garden. I can fit 8 different herbs comfortably as long as I trim them fairly often. I would prefer a nipple for drainage, as it just drips excess water from the bottom drainage hole and there's no easy way to attach a drain tube. Not a big deal though. just make sure your drain hole is on the outside of the railing.

These are very heavy duty - really nice. I took the advice of another reviewer to make fit to my small balcony railing. I went to Home Depot and had them cut to length two 1-inch by 1-inch pieces of wood. I used both glue and screws to attach the wood to the bottom of the planter where it fits onto the railing. I used black paint on the wood to match the planter, so it is very discreet. It is very sturdy on my balcony railing. It is heavy gauge plastic, which feels like good quality. We have had a couple really windy days and storms, and still not even a little bit of a budge. Meanwhile, the size is great. Please also listen to other reviewers - BEFORE you plant you have to knock out the drainage holes. i used a screw driver and a rubber mallet. If I can do this anyone can. I definitely recommend the planter. (I have two of them)

I have a 2" railing but couldn't find a rail planter less than 4" wide underneath to sit atop the railing. Bought this, and prior to filling I took two 1"X1" pieces of wood and screwed it into the bottom to narrow the gap(one on each side of the 4" railing slot. It worked perfectly. The planter's plastic was heavy duty enough to take the screws without cracking or bending. Of course I worried that my 2" wrought iron railing might not be strong enough to hold the filled planter-i held my breath when it rained and the reserviors filled with water, but they seem just fine.Dont forget to punch the pre-made overflow indentations out before you fill the planters.
