The fuse is a fail-safe that stops the electricity to the heating system when a clothes dryer overheats. When this fuse is broken your dryer gas or electric will not start or heat properly. This fuse self-destructs and cannot be reset, it must be replaced when there is no continuity between the terminals. The fuse has two terminals and is sold individually. It attaches to the blower wheel housing. Blown fuses can be caused by clogged ventilation and is recommended to ensure all the vents are clear with proper airflow when you perform this repair.

My wife said the dryer wouldn't start. I assumed it would be something simple to fix, so I expected to pay $100 or so for someone to come out and look at it and then another $20 for the part, but my wife decided to google the issue. This fuse was the top hit for causes that the dryer stops working. It took me longer to move stuff out of the way and get to the back of the dryer than it did to replace it. I plugged it back in and it started right back up. Dryer is about 12 years old. I have two more fuses to use so hopefully the dryer keeps on working for many more years.

So my first review of this wasn't published by Amazon since I gave a link to a video that is on the tube, where it tells how to change a thermal fuse. Hopefully, this one will cuz I want ppl who are in the same situation like I were, to be able to fix their own dryer. My dryer which is old, don't know how old cuz It came with the house we bought two yrs ago, stopped working within a year and the problem was blown thermal fuse. I got it fixed for $225 and it lasted for over a yr, then last month, stopped working again, it was the same issue and after the tech that came over charged the $65 diagnosis. fee told me it will cost $245 to fix the thermal fuse. Are you kidding me, I could have gotten a new dryer if I added both the repairs. So I paid him $65 and googled how and why the problem was occurring. It's a very common problem and since the dryer is old, it could be that the load was too heavy and it couldn't handle it. Anywho, I searched online for the cost of the thermal fuse since the video showed how easy it was to replace it. On Amazon, it was the cheapest and I got 3 for less than $4. I didn't have anything to lose even if it didn't work cuz I would have to buy a new dryer anyway and with prime, I got it within two days. My hubby opened the dryer carefully since we are not professionals and I am afraid of being electrocuted , ofcrs we unplugged it first. changed the thermal fuse, which took less than 30 sec, it took longer to put the back of the dryer since I didn't have the fancy screwdriver and used a wrench to tighten the screws and voila, the dryer started running. The whole process took 15 mins and we saved a lot of money plus now I know what to do if it happens again. Btw my model number didn't match but I ordered it anyway after watching the same Maytag dryer video. Just google the video for how to replace thermal fuse and you'll find it. It's by the department store that had filed for bankruptcy and starts with S and ends with an S. My dryer was electric and there are two vids for both gas and electric. Be very careful and unplug the dryer b4 doing any work. Good luck.
