All parts tested and worked perfectly. As you can see in the pic, the emitters are visible using some kind of digital camera. The receivers all responded to the light from the supplied emitters. I would buy this product again, but I subtracted one star for lack of documentation; a datasheet should be made available or the part numbers identified so that less-experienced users and non-professional experimenters can properly bias these parts for use and to know their working parameters without having to resort to destructive testing.NOTES TO EXPERIMENTERS AND ARDUINO USERS: this is not a light bulb and a photoresistor! The clear one is the emitter, the dark one is the receiver! The receiver is a phototransistor: emitter and collector! The wavelength is 940nm, not 840nm -- the fact that they are packaged as emitter-receiver pairs should be a clue that they're not meant to illuminate your night camera projects.

I purchased these specifically to light an area for my raspberry pi official NoIR camera. I used eight LEDs in parallel on 5v with a 100 capacitor. The light is bright enough to see a clear image at a range of about 3 feet.

I ordered these led's for a simple detection project and they were delivered on time, but when I went to go test them I noticed I wasn't noticing a difference in the voltage drop across the Receiver LED. I tried a few diffeonrent tests, and realized that the receiver led's were indeed responding to lighting conditions, but NONE of the IR LED's were emitting anything.I connected the IR LED to a CR2032 coin cell battery and just opened the camera on my phone to see if the IR light could be observed, but nothing. Nothing on any of them at all. I then tried connecting them in series with a 100Ω resistor to a 5 volt supply, but still nothing. I then, just for a sanity check, placed a regular led in parallel with the IR led to which the normal led emitted light but still nothing on the IR LED. This was extremely disappointing as I though this was such a great price.

Only thing to note is that in the questions, someone said, the Receiver(darker LED) requires pullup, but mentioned that LARGER leg, is negative, which is counterintuitive, and wrong. Larger is positive, and I tested it, just to be sure! Else, all works as per the spec.

The lack of datasheet made these less desirable. A little experimenting and educated guessing… the forward voltage on the IRLEDs is ~2v and current is about 20ma. On a 5v supply I tried a 100ohm resistor and that blew the LED. But a 150 ohm worked fine, and at 220 ohm there was noticeably less IR when I used a camera phone to view it.The black photodiodes work as expected.I was building a beam break detector so this set was perfect without the need for 555 timers or other mess.Wish they would provide a datasheet so minus one star.

Work well, Keep the clear IR LED's under 2v or they will burn out. The black receivers work well hooked up to a PI's GPIO pin with a resistor between pin and ground with the internal pull-up on the GPIO turned on on the PI. I'm using these in a weather vane and an anemometer for measuring wind speed and direction.
