Both units failed to operate after several uses, less than a dozen. Disappointed to say the least.

I was hesitant to buy this set of two punches because you usually get what you pay for and these were extremely inexpensive. I am happy to say they are well built with a finish that will not rust. The impact pressure is just right. Not too firm or weak. If you peruse the image you will see a set of three punches above the dime and three more below. The two different sets of punches are from the two different punches. The lowest most punch is one impact, up one is two impacts, and up one more is three impacts. You are looking at a cross section of 0.500" mild steel. The punches marked well without issue. The punches are simply built, well constructed, and should last quite some time. I would recommend disassembling and lubricating everything prior to use just so the pieces slide against each other easily. I would definitely purchase these again. Ciao - SS

These are very ergonomic. Easy to hold, feel nice in the hand, easy to put pressure on. When they're working right, they'll leave a nice mark. But they don't always work right. The end will come unscrewed just a little bit, or maybe your not holding your tongue just right, or maybe it's just a day that ends in y. Whatever the cause, about 40 percent of the time, this thing just won't click. After messing with it for a minute, it'll always work, it just won't do it the first time everytime. I still keep it in my toolbox, because it does eventually work. It's just a bit frustrating. That aside, it's very nice feeling, has a good heft to it, feels decently made.

The quality of these spring punches seems to be okay. They are made of stainless steel so should not rust or corrode.I have not used this type of automatic punch before so can't really assess the size of the punch hole compared to others but have included a photo showing the punch mark, on a piece of iron, of this tool compared to one with a center punch and hammer with a light swing of the hammer. This tools mark is the lower one. You can see it is about half the size. The punch mark of this tool while quite small was large enough for me to start a small bit but a 1/4 inch drill bit wandered off the mark.It does take a bit of effort to make the punch work but just push straight down on the tool until it trips and punches a pilot mark in your material. You can adjust the amount of force that it punches by turning the top in a counter clockwise direction to lessen the force but for harder material the full pressure was needed to make much of a mark. I tried it in brass and it left about the same size of indent. It did leave a nice dimple in wood. You can sharpen the tips or reshape them but I found them to be satisfactory as they came.I would of rated at 5 stars but for the small size of the indent but to be fair this is about all that any of these spring punches in this price range give you. Also on some of these punches they put a larger top which makes it easier to use and a flat side to prevent it from rolling off your work surface. I also felt that with such a smooth surface on the top the adjustment option is a little difficult.
