Having an old shredder means she needs a little maintenance from time to time. My shredder says it only takes oil, but I just disregarded that completely, as inside of the box there was a lubricant sheet that it came with, so......I remembered how good my shredder worked after I used that sheet and it also became quieter. I ordered the biggest pack possible of these and decided to give them a go as soon as I used them. My order came very quickly, was vacuum-sealed and came in an envelope that you can close up after you grab your sheet out. I put one in, then ran it backwards for 3 seconds as the instructions said. These are half sheets, so I guess you could use two if you wanted to. I liked how my shredder ran after using these and will use them more consistently now that I have a "lifetime supply" aka 48 of them! I think this is a great deal at $24.99 for 48! Must Buy!

I have a very old shredder. Like so old that the once white plastic has aged into an almond shade (see picture) When it was new, it could shred a stack of 5 sheets (gasp!!) at a time. But as it has aged, that has gone down to sometimes 2 sheets if the paper isn't too thick. Sometimes I have to feed in sheets one at a time. I'll admit I have abused this poor guy sometimes watching it struggle when I put in 3 sheets, hoping the motor doesn't burn out.Now you will likely have a few questions which I think I should answer.1. Have you ever lubricated it?No2. Why not?It is so old I forgot it needed it. It may not have even called that out in the instructions making it not my fault but likely it is my fault. I just didn't do it.3. Why do you live this way? Why wouldn't you buy a new shredder?Good question. I have considered it but I just haven't. Also, I hate throwing electronics away if they still even semi work. I love the earth and hate the idea of this stuff ending up in a landfill.4. When are you going to actually get to the part where you review the product?Yet another really good question...... OK now.Enter these shredder lubricant sheets. I saw these and thought.... could these "fix" my old, now sort of golden shredder? Well, I was kind of hoping for a miracle and guess what? These actually did indeed fix my old baby. Running one sheet through my shredder and it can now shred 5 sheets at a time!!!! Frankly I am surprised and very pleased. So this would get more than 5 stars if I could it give more than 5.I should mention the slight downside. This is really a small pouch of lubricant so it is made of some kind of plastic. I am not a big fan of plastic that you are going to shred and put into the landfill, but I think the product would have to be made this way. To be really green, one should manually lubricate their shredder. But it is a small amount of plastic.Bottom line is these worked for me. I am hoping to get another 20 years with this shredder.

You've got to keep your shredder lubricated. The more you shred, the more often you need to lubricate. I'd suggest at least once every two weeks for light use and every few days for more frequent use. Many manufacturers suggest two months for light use and every month for heavy use but in my experience that isn't enough. You basically have two options: you can get oil and oil the blades directly or you can use shredder lubricant sheets like these. In my view, there's no reason to do the oiling directly. You may save a few dollars but it's more of a hassle and you can end up making a mess. The shredder sheets are simple to use--just put them in the device to shred and let them go. I got the 48 sheet box which is a good amount and they're sold at a reasonable price point. Worked perfectly. Recommended!

A personal shredder is one of those in-between sort of items that are easy to maintain but can seem difficult. They don't cost enough to cart them off for maintenance because they are easy to replace. On the other hand, that sort of carting can be time consuming and annoying. Better to maintain them properly in the first place. But how? All of the forums that give advice on this topic say the same thing: clean the blades regularly with a simple wipedown with a clean cloth; don't overfill your shredder. That is, empty it regularly. Avoid shredding paper clips and staples. And, most important of all, lubricate the blades regularly. That part has always seemed daunting to me. Not anymore. You don't even have to open a package: just take out one of the wrapped sheets, and feed it into the shredder. Voila! Lubricated blades! It just could not be easier.

Using these sheets could not be simpler - feed one through the shredder like a regular sheet of paper, and theoretically, your blades are lubricated. After trying it, I did not notice much excess oil beneath the blades, though there were subtle shiny spots; I assume it did its job. The instructions are straightforward, though they do not specify how often to use the sheets. My shredder's manual also does not provide a lubrication schedule; it simply states to do it periodically. As someone who meticulously follows maintenance guidelines to prolong my device's lifespan, I wish there were more explicit usage recommendations (neither manual for my shredders indicates how often you should lubricate the shredder blades; one says you should, and the other makes no mention of the process). I am giving these sheets a four because while I appreciate their convenience, I cannot yet confirm if they work as effectively as traditional oil. If they perform just as well over time, I would recommend them as a hassle-free alternative to the classic method and update my rating to a perfect 5/5.
