This is an awesome product for the “newer” Recessed 1/2” deep drywall mount LED recessed lights versus the old recessed light cans, no more having ceiling rafters, trusses or floor joists in the way for lighting layout!

I had no idea these existed, but I knew that I needed them the first time I saw them. So these are really useful in a number of applications: 1) Open rafters, such as an unfinished garage 2) Open floor joists such as a basement or under a house in the crawl space. 3) New construction 4) Retrofit in a finished garageSo these are perfect if you have an open unfinished location and you want to install canless LED lights, otherwise known as pancake LEDs. I would recommend centering the lights between the joists and fold the extra part of the plate around the beam, and screwing into the side of the beam. This prevents you from being able to adjusting the position, but gives a cleaner look, and puts the end of the bracket out of the way to avoid getting cut in the future. If you have a metal bender or can make a clean 90 degree bend to fold it up and out of the way, it will look real good.If you have a finished application, then these should protect the drywall from the spring clips over time. I used these plate to install LEDs in my finished garage. I have a single story house with an open attic without insulation above the garage. I was able to cut my drywall holes first and then bend and install these plates after measuring the position of the hole relative to my rafters/trusts. I would also suggest just using to simply secure the plate to the top of the dry wall if you don't want to bend the plate. So I have to take off one star for the price. These are stamped, and should not cost more than $2 each. However they are new, so getting them for $5 would be a fair price, however these are $10 each in a six pack, which I feel should have only been $20 at the most, not the $60 price as of 2024-02. I recommend to shop around to see if you can buy in bulk the number that you will need, and see no reason why these should cost more than the lights.I am not taking off a star because the picture is clear that the plate has open areas, but I would like to mount the LED junction box on the metal plate; other brands have a continuous solid plate that allows for that. Also these will work with various sizes of lights. Beware that not all lights are truly 6". I have found a number of the pancake lights to be 5.5" and not a true 6".PROs:+ Heavy Duty+ 3", 4" and 6" compatibleCONs:- Price

Ordered these CycevSun 6 Pack New Construction Rough in Plate Pre Mounting Bracket as I am a journeyman electrician and can use these on new construction jobs. They make it so much easier to get the lights in a consistent place in the room and cut the drywall out without making any mistakes. The product arrived very quickly and in a well padded box. It had ripped open a little bit in shipping but there was no damage to the mounting brackets. These are meant to go above the drywall, not to be stand alone mounting plates. These are thicker than the last, with galvanized metal, rounded edges and measurement marks along two sides to help position them on framing members. They are an added cost but in addition to the benefit of installation ease they allow you to remove those recessed lights without damaging the drywall when you pull them down. On new construction I would use either these or traditional cans. The tabs can break the drywall and lead to an expensive repair if there is no can or bracket in place. Only issue is that you will have to make sure whatever recessed lights you buy will fit inside the size hole you knock out, as a new construction installer that should not be an issue. These are thicker than the last set, but I am not sure that I would trust them without drywall, not sure why you would use these in that application anyway...That last issue with the listing claiming they could be used in that manner aside, these exceeded my expectations, especially in comparison to the previous order that was priced at the same value.

These construction rough in plates for round recessed lights are a good quality product. There are three cut-to-size options for round lights. Small spacers are clipped in order to size to lights. These plates have measurements on the edge to enable a precise installation the first time. Having the measurements saves the installer from having to measure several times to make sure the lights are lined up and centered. There is really nothing negative to say about these plates. They are a good product that installs fairly easily and saves a lot of work compared to installing recessed lights with the long, gangly attachment legs. I will definitely purchase another set of these plates if I decide more lights are needed on my home that is in construction.

I used these to mount some recessed LED lights in my basement. I picked up both 4 and 6 inch lights and this worked perfectly for both. I ended up using a combination of wire cutters and pliers to remove the inner circle layers to the size I needed. This did leave a raw sharp edge so I hammered those down flat to prevent myself from getting cut later while doing the install.I loved having the measuring marks on the side which I didn’t need frequently but there were a couple times when I was trying to grab a certain amount of wire and this measurement gave me confidence I was grabbing enough. The holes on the side are a bit small if you have bigger hands/arms but they were wide enough to let me get the wiring placed the way I needed to.I was able to drill these into the exposed joists with four screws to keep them from moving around. At first I drilled them in fairly loosely so I could adjust them later then snugged them up when I got them right where I wanted after installation.I’ll be able to fairly easily slap drywall on the ceiling right over these when we get to that point, and cut holes in the drywall after the fact. For now I was able to at least install wiring and lighting in the basement that I didn’t have previously, so this should buy me some additional time to procrastinate finishing the basement fully.
