It fits over the terminal to keep it from touching the frame. The only negative is that it doesn't really stretch, so it won't fit over an excessively large terminal.

If you have more than one cable or the end ring is too big you will not be able to install it.

This is exactly what I was looking for. The only reason to leave a negative review is due to ignorance.. the dimensions are listed! This works perfectly on my motorcycle battery terminals and the size is exactly as listed.

these are much smaller than you would have thought, lees than half the size of a standard size battery terminal, these are obviously not for normal battery terminals.
