The plates were plenty hefty but the screws were more like Sheetrock screws. I went out and bought tougher screws.

I bought these L brackets to reinforce some new gates I've built. They are thick, strong, and the powdercoat finish has no flaws. They come with a bag of self tapping metal screws which will come in handy for something else. I would buy these again.

I have several projects and always prefer using brackets or things such as these to ensure that connection points aren't going to be a weak point in the design.The coating is nice and didn't have any issues with scratches or damage. The predrilled holes also made installation easy. I suppose the only thing that should be taken note of is that the screws and plate aren't really made to have anything flush against them as they push up about 1/2 an inch from the surface of the board.

This cross plate is indeed heavy duty, with a smooth surface paint and screws, so there is no need for additional screws. The quality is very good
