Note that this doesn't split one switch port into two. You'll still need two switch ports. What it does is let you take two 10Mbps or 100Mbps devices and connect them over a single cable to two switch ports. You see, these slower devices only need four of the eight wires in a typical Ethernet cable. These adapters shift one of the connections onto the wires the other connection isn't using, and shifts it back at the other end. It's a way to avoid running a new cable when you need to add a second device.Or it would be, if it were well-built.The ones I received were defective. One port would only connect intermittently, allowing a few packets before dropping the connection. It's an internal fault in one of the devices.There's no manufacturer's contact info on the packaging (or if there is, it's obliterated by the Amazon ASIN barcode label, which also covers the instructions). Amazon's "need support" link is useless. And the time and effort, or shipping costs, associated with replacing or returning the defective product exceed its value. So, they're essentially unsupported and disposable.If you're one of the very few people who have the niche use case for these, maybe you'll get lucky and get good ones. Maybe not. It's a risk, and one I can't recommend. You'd probably be better off making your own version.

VizGiz 2 Pack RJ45 Splitter 1 to 2 Port. Has two parts, one for each end. This takes a standard 4 pair Cat5-6-7 cable and changes it to two Cat5 cables. (yes cat5, as the speed is limited to 100mb) 1GB speed requires all 4 pairs, so this works great for certain applications. I needed to setup a second VLan connection to a server for a VPN connection, but only had one port, so used this to split it, as the 100mb speed was acceptable. If you need full GB speed then you need to get a switch.

I have two POE cameras sharing one ethernet line. Previous splitter of another brand just died after 10 years. Replacing with this and they come back right away. Price is good too.
