My first experience with fret lighting was with an older competing product, Fretlight, which came already built into the guitar and had a USB cord that needed to be plugged into a computer. While I had looked at Fret Zealot (v1) at the time, they offered a smaller library and the need to install it first, which had mixed reviews. And though Fret Zealot offered the ability to add to any guitar and you're not locked into using their instrument, Fretlight still made good sense at the time as a more mature product.Fast forward almost a decade and, WOW, what a difference! Both companies offer a wireless solution, but Fret Zealot has finally pulled ahead with its v2 offering, IMHO, with a large library, a simpler installation process, and the ability to use the guitar I want rather than being stuck with limited offerings.Regardless of which option you choose, learning with light applies as much to experienced musicians as it does to beginners just starting out. It provides guidance in learning new riffs, simplifying and speeding up the process. There's even the light show feature for gigging musicians to add that extra punch to their playing and their shows.I wish it could be more universal, so it could be used on different scale lengths rather than needing to buy separate ones for your Les Paul and Super Strat, should I decide I wanted to move it to a different guitar at some point.Other than that, no complaints about v2 of this product, well done Fret Zealot!

I have had this for a few days now and have only just set it up to use on my new travel guitar i just bought!First of all i live on a narrowboat and very limited for space so a full size accoustic would not fit anywhere! So after a lot of researching i decided on getting a Donner Hushh silent accoustic guitar and mini amp etc, so pleased i did as this fits on that perfectly!I really don't know where to start on this as it is amazing and what a great learning experience i am going to have with this!Setting it up was easy and you can actually watch a video on how to do this on youtube! After downloading the Fret Zealot app for ios it was simple and straight forward, sticking this onto my guitar took a bit of patience but got there in the end with no problems! Just make sure you get the right size for your guitar! This is a brilliant guitar learning aid and the App for this is what makes it a great experience! The song and tab library is so extensive i spent hours searching and browsing!Well my guitar journey begings here and now and i will keep this review updated regarding learning to play using this, Nearly forgot to mention this also looks great with the super bright LEDs really really cool!I would easily recommend this!

I have always enjoyed and wanted to learn to play guitar but always struggled as I don’t keep it up and stop and start with it. This looked like the perfect solution and I had visions reminiscent of playing guitar hero, and being good at it! The product itself came very well presented in a nice box. The parts and instructions all very clear on how to apply it, removing the strings being essential so bear this in mind, application was ok if you take your time and prepare the fret board properly. It takes patience and precision to get it on right. Once it’s all on and strings back on the first thing I wanted to try is a bit of a light show in the dark! Ha, it’s impressive to watch and looks amazing. The LEDS are super bright and can be seen easily day or night. Putting it into practice I found it good but a little slow and at first hard to recognise which fret to press for which light. The best setting I found was the one where the app listens to when you’ve played the note and then lights up the next one. I found that this was the best way to learn for me as I could play through the correct notes slowly and build up the learning to be able to play faster and eventually have learned a sequence and it actually sound right. It’s fun if nothing else and I think with practice playing with this method of learning you will become more proficient at it. It is expensive.. it’s not exactly something to throw on your kids guitar. Well made product and a great idea for learning will appeal to some people who struggle with other methods.

This is a wonderful invention. Having something that shows you where to place your fingers correctly by lighting up LEDs is a genius idea. The kit comes very well packaged but with limited instructions. You need to go online and watch a video. I found that it took several attempts to get the fit just how I wanted it and, even then, I haven't got a perfect edge along the top of the guitar neck. Make sure you get the correct length as these are designed to fit almost perfectly to standard neck lengths.Peeling off the backing is straightforward and sticking the LEDs across the frets is also not that difficult. Getting perfect alignment all the way down the neck is a bit more tricky and a minor deviation at the start can end up being about 1mm out down at the bottom. It doesn't sound much but I found this can leave a slight edge overhanging the neck which your hand might then catch when playing. So patience is needed to obtain the perfect fit.I like the fact that the connecting lead for the control unit has a magnetic head so just snaps on and off but I find the lead is quite stiff and therefore you need to think carefully about where to position the end of the LED strip which connects to it.Following the lights to play a song downloaded from the app is almost impossible as they flash so fast it's not something a newbie could ever keep up with! However, the lessons are great and talk you through all the stages very clearly.I hadn't appreciated that after the trial period a subscription is required as this is not clear in the listing so, on top of the purchase price of the hardware you will need to pay a subscription to continue to learn which cold make it quite pricey overall.

I have been playing guitar for many years. Mostly I had focused on learning songs note for note (which FZ greatly reduces the time it takes to do that too). When I decided I wanted the learn more about theory, I struggled a lot looking at scale diagrams then back at the neck and I could never really visualize what scales (chords) looked like on the fretboard. I saw this and ordered one. Instillation was easy enough and I was up and running in no time. I focused on scales first…it started clicking immediately…I could finally start to see the fretboard and have confidence in the notes I was playing! Awesome! This will not make you but it will give you the missing pieces to learn the guitar quickly and confidently. This is an awesome product that will definitely help you achieve more success on the Guitar!

Having struggled for years to play the guitar I thought I would give this a try after seeing promotions for it. Easy to set up as long as you read all the instructions and fit the board correctly. Download the app to use with it. Start as beginner or more advanced guitar player. Instruction videos are at hand to help. Lots of practice still needed but if you persist with it the benefits are great in the end. I'm now playing a few chords and still practicing my finger styles. There's no rushing everything is taken at your pace for learning. Overall of you want to learn guitar but like me need some coaching then this is the way forward. Recommended
