  • PICkit3 is a development tool that can simulate and download PIC online! The PIC family of microcontrollers is connected to the PICkit3 via the ICSP interface.
  • PICkit3 is capable of in-circuit programming and debugging of Microchip's PIC10/12/16/18/24/32, dsPIC30/dsPIC33 and other full-scale PIC FLASH microcontroller chips.
  • PICkit3 can program Microchip's KEELOQ HCS family of chips, MCP250xx CAN family of chips, and EEPROM memory chips.
  • Compared with PICkit2, PICkit3 has the advantages of stable simulation, more models, faster and more. It can stably support series MCU simulation and download of PIC16 PIC18 PIC24 DSPIC.
  • Since the PicKit3 discontinued,it's not original parts, but it does not affect usage, you will find it works great. If you mind, please do not make a purchase. Thank you.

Specifications:
Programming function: can burn FLASH ROM, EEPROM, etc.
Simulation function: support various debugging methods such as full speed operation, single step debugging, breakpoint debugging, etc.
Simulation performance: using USB interface for simulation debugging, single-step debugging, breakpoint debugging, fast response
Programming performance: USB interface, ICSP download, fast download speed
Connect PC with USB interface
PICkit3 development tools embed drivers for high-speed USB communication
Connection interface with the target board
ICSP standard interface specified by PICkit3
The firmware can be upgraded (the upgrade method is automatic upgrade, and Microchip will provide an upgrade program.)
PICKIT3 supported IC can be viewed through MPLAB IDE v8.92, open the software, configure->select device PICKIT3 is supported by a green light.
8-bit Devices - PIC10F/12F/16F
PIC10F/12F/16F5X
8-bit Devices - PIC18F
PIC18CXX/FXX
16-bit Devices
dsPIC30F/33F, PIC24F/H
32-bit Devices
PIC32MX
Since the PIC's ICSP interface has only one row of 6PIN connectors, you need to pay attention to the left and right direction of the connection when the PICkit3 is connected to the PIC target board. Do not plug it in to avoid burning the PICkit3 downloader.
Status of the PICkit3 LED indicator:
Power: Green, lights up when power is turned on or connected to the target board.
Active: Blue, lit when the PICkit 3 has established a communication or send/receive command with the PC.
Status:
Green, lights up when the debugger is working normally (standby).
Yellow, lights up when the operation is busy.
Red, lights up when the debugger fails.
Package Includes: 1Pcs

I used it to program the pic's in my Losmandy telescope mount so I could update to Gemini 2 level 6. Worked fine with the Microchip software. No complaints. If you buy one to do what I did, order some 2.0 mm male header pins to make an adapter, this has the standard 2.5mm pitch.

I've used Microchip PIC devices for many years. This programmer is a copy but programs PIC devices as well as the originals. I have not tried the in-circuit debugging / emulating functionality.

Works OK. I would prefer to do everything at the command line. Have to use Microchip's IDE and IPE. Their software has more functions than I know what to do with. All I want to do is compile my source code and store the hex file in the Pic microcontroller. Preferably at the command line.

I purchased this with a dev board and it wouldn't program using it. When using it to power the programming, it would say VPP was 4.75V instead of 5V and fail to program. When using power to the board, the programming would fail validation. Thinking it might be the dev board I bought a Universal Programmer Seat Board and it still complained about VPP. I have tried different computers, SSUSB ports, and a few other things and nothing works. I can only conclude the unit is the issue.

It works just fine, don’t mind the negative reviews. I’m using MPLAB X v6.0 and it’s programming my PIC12F as expected. However, the “Status” led indicator on the PicKit3 clone may sustain a green light then blink red every second. The documentation states that this is due to Vdd/Vss problems but this hasn’t effected programming the PIC.If you are new to PIC programming (like I am) be careful not to overwrite your preprogrammed calibration memory. If you accidentally write over it, your PIC will not function as expected until you restore your calibration memory from a working PIC.Keep coding. 👓
