A Square Nut is a four-sided nut that can be used in a channel or welded into place. Square nuts have a greater surface in contact with the part being fastened and therefore provide greater resistance to loosening, but also a greater resistance to tightening as well. Square nuts are used along with flat washers in order to avoid damage from their sharp edges and help to increase the strength of the fastener.

I was expecting The Hillman Group to send me a nice square nut package like I see in the picture to match the old ones I'm replacing as I restore this old tool. What I received where the size I requested, and quantity, but basically stamped steel squares that had been tapped to 8-32. Nothing nice or showy to make this tool look original. It's just your basic Chinese garbage they passed off on me using the picture you see above.With these nuts, I got screwed.Signed,Disappointed in Phoenix

it's square, but not rounded like in the picture. it's sharp all around everywhere.
