Worked great right out of the box

Ordered once, arrived with screen damaged (was missing protection, looked like a returned item). Requested a replacement, received new one with a dead line of pixels through the middle. How difficult is it to get a basic, functional LCD? I'm sick of doing QA testing on electronics for vendors who won't do their job.

Mine came with the I2C interface soldered on, not separately as pictured. That was disappointing because I had planned to rotate the interface about its axis and solder it on the top of the display instead of the bottom. Oh well. One display worked fine, the other displayed nothing. Its backlight worked, and its I2C scan returned an address of 0x27 like the other one, but the contrast pot didn't seem to have any effect. The good one needed its contrast pot turned to within about 45 degrees of full clockwise before the pixels started to become visible. Nice display when they work. These are going back.

As you can see in the picture the “backpack” is just soldered on anyway they could make it work. It’s sticking off the back at roughly 33 degrees instead of flat and inline with the device itself. I have others purchased elsewhere that are manufactured correctly. There is a “fin” on the back that needs to be flattened or removed prior to soldering. Clearly the people who assembled these were not aware of that, as they just soldered it on an angle making flush mount applications more difficult than necessary. Longer standoffs are required and if space is lacking this item will not work. They are poorly constructed and should be avoided as there are countless other products available that are properly made. Save your money and buy elsewhere.

Works great with 9v arduino processor input.

Using the I2C connections is the only way to display for the Arduino. It was so easy.Just a tip....you can use either the SCL / SDA pins or you can use the A4 / A5 pins, but these pins are directly connected on the UNO.So with I2C, don't count on using A4 or A5 for anything else.
