I bought this October 2024, it was functional about 4 months. The pilot flame went out. I lit it again, lasted another week then went out again. When the pilot was on, the gas log provided heat to the house. My propane tank is about 75% full and pipes are unblocked. Why this product is so short lived?

First of all, at less than half the price of a new one from a name brand, I'm not dissatisfied. This seems to work as it should. I don't remember my old one glowing bright cherry red along the whole metal surface of the burner outlet the way this one does, but it's been many years since I had the old one actually working correctly so I can't say for sure. It definitely seems like that part is made out of some pretty thin metal but time will tell.The pilot flame is LOUD. It sounds like the kind of propane torch that you screw onto a gas bottle for plumbing or mechanic work. I can hear it from the next room of the house if the house is quiet. If this is going to bother you, get a name brand.The only other thing I can say is that as it came out of the package, the flame on the unit I got was not aligned correctly with the gas holes on the burner unit. Every time I turned the thermostat on the burner would not light immediately; it pumped gas for 5-10 seconds until enough had pooled in the fireplace to finally touch the flame and then gave a nice big woof when all the gas lit at once... not what we wanted. Bending the bracket slightly so that the flame was more directly aimed at the burner holes solved that problem so you might have to do this on your unit as well.If I had it to do over again, I'd buy a name brand to cut down on the sound volume but I'm going to keep this one until it dies now that I've got it. It does do the job if you can handle the above.

The part did not work all the time . I bought another one from another company. When I removed it I found a defective thermocouple.

Not the easiest of devices to install, not the parts fault but the manufacturer of the stove it went in made it a bit difficult to install. After install it fired the stove up as it is designed. Not an expert but I would guess that the thermocoupler was defective, now all is well. Great price for this one.

The pilot flame is loud. It is not a quiet smith pilot flame that you find with products direct from the manufacturer. Spend your money elsewhere. I returned it the same day I received it and installed it. Not worth your money. Other than that it functions.
