Your cart is empty.A carriage bolt, coach bolt or round head square neck bolt is used through iron strengthening plates on either side of a wooden beam. It is commonplace though to use them on bare timber, the squared section giving enough grip to prevent rotation. Carriage bolts are extensively used in security fixings where the bolt must only be removable from one side. The smooth domed head and square neck below prevent the carriage bolt from being unlocked from the insecure side.

Need to keep battery locked into mower. These bolts are long enough for the battery bracket, used locking nylon nut.

Reviews for the Toilevator that I purchased pointed out that it came with galvanized bolts, which will eventually corrode and rust out.So, instead of using the included hardware for the Toilevator, I purchased stainless steel bolts, nuts and washers.This bolt was not available in a 5 1/2" length, so I ordered the 6" bolt, and cut it down (after researching how to cut a bolt without harming the threads).You should also use stainless steel bolts to install toilets, boat trailer rollers, some car parts, and anywhere else where corrosion might become a problem. In the long run, you will find it well worth the additional cost.
